Does anyone pay OOP for signature restaurant?

There are dining plan calculators out there that guide you towards figuring out what is a better use of the credit and what is a better to pay for. And if the dining plan is even worth getting, even when it's free.
If you have the credits and you haven't cut out any meals to get those 2 credit meals in then you may as well use them there. Having credits left over doesn't do you any good, even if the "value per credit" is lost at a signature. The worse thing you can do is leave credits unused or trade those credits down. Even using your snack credits on take home treats is a bad value per credit, even if it's still better than leaving them unused.

*Nod* What Angi said. I used one of those calculators and was surprised that it was a little cheaper for me to NOT get the dining plan. However, for us we use it more for ease of use. We like having the trip (mostly) paid for upfront. If we went to Disney more often, we probably would skip the dining plan.

My DH and I love the Disney Signature Dining options! Our friends would consider us "foodies" and some people do not value food as much as we do. That might be something only you and your family can truly decide. Besides being Disney affiliated, a lot of the signature restaurants are outstanding in their own right. I will say that we found Le Cellier to be more mediocre than others but have heard Yachtsmen is wonderful from other people. We prefer Citricos and California Grill the most and we eat there every time. We do not use the Dining Plan. It makes us feel obligated to eat more than we normally would. We did on our first trip bc I think it was free but we have to use 2 credits for them and we generally share an appetizer and dessert and we do not drink sodas so its just not a good deal for us when we total it up. We pay OOP every time and we think it is worth it.

thanks for all your advice. I decided to rent a car for 2 nights and go outside the world to eat. I calculated it all and this works best for me. Best thing is I can go to store and get bottled water, soda, beer, etc ... Car is only $35 a day.. for me no brainer

Often times the 2TS meals are the better ones to pay OOP. If you consider the $50 steak, that's only $25 per credit which is far less than a character buffet, as an exampl.
