I have known about Book Crossing's website for months now, but I haven't released any books "into the wild" until today. I dragged my feet on it because there's just something about giving away MY books to a complete stranger that's hard to swallow. I LOVE my books, even if they've only been read once and just sit on the shelf.

So, I got this book for Christmas, and I finally read it this week. It was excellent, and I know I wanted others to read it. I determined to set it free. So this morning I had to take my sister for a CT-scan at the hospital, and I planned to leave it there in a waiting room. It was difficult to sit there and imagine who would pick up my book...who would take home my book...who would read my book...and would they pass it on..... It was very hard to get up, walk out, and leave my dear book behind. I'm hoping someone will be surprised when they find it and will appreciate the gesture.

What has your experience been?

Hasn't anyone heard of Book Crossing? It's the website that encourages people to share their books with others by "releasing them into the wild". You might "accidentally" leave it at a coffee shop or at the dentist office waiting room.

You register your book at Book Crossing, and then you make a journal entry. They give you a registration number which you put inside the book. When someone else finds the book, they go to the website to register the book. Then they're supposed to read it, make a journal entry, and then release it into the wild again for someone else to find. People can track where their book is whenever someone enters the registration number at the site.

So no one has heard of this? You should check it out. ::yes::

There was an article in our paper a couple of weeks ago and I went to the web site but I havn't released any books yet either. Keep us informed if someone finds your book. I thought that I might release one on our trip.

I have always given my books away after reading them.I own a baby boutique one day a nice young couple came in and we were talking about things. She told me she was a nanny we laughed about all the crazy things parents do ect. I told her how i finished reading a book,oh she has been meaning to buy it, i went in the back room and gave it to her.She was shocked that a stranger would just give her something.well she ended up spending a bit
of money!.I would have given it to her without her buying a thing.

I have never heard of this, I'm going to go check out the website. Let us know about your book journey.
