Any reviews? I currently own the Nikon D40 with several lenses. I just bought another Canon because I want a camera to take away with us. I don't want to take my Nikon. Well the shutter is soooo slow. My DS is gone before the picture is taken.

How is the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS? Is the shutter fast? Is the focus slow?

TIA:)

I bought my DSLR specifically to take to Disney. I think you'll regret not taking it.

Which lenses do you have for the D40. I have both a D50 and D80 and have shot track and cross country meets with them. No problems with the shutter being too slow.

Which modes are you shooting with? I think that the D40 does 3 frames per second.

Did you try out Nikon's Digital Tutor: http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d40/index.shtml

Not quite the same comparing a Point and Shoot to a DSLR.

My sister-in-law has some sort of Canon ELF point and shoot digital camera. I usually have 5 or 6 pictures taken before she gets one. I notice the same things at the track and cross country meets.

Do a quick Google search for D40 Tutorials and see what it comes up. Perhaps you just need to refine your technique a bit.

It's a very hard question to answer. I have an 870IS, and love it. I carry it around with me everywhere I go, it's proven useful on many occasions.

But it doesn't match the image quality, high-ISO performance or all around speed of the 350D.

My plan for my trip to Disneyworld next year is to use mostly the 870 during the day, and use the SLR for the night-time parades. But "mostly" can be a very big word...

PS I have some (really boring) 870IS shots on this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1816873
