Does anyone own a Shih Tzu?

Ours is seven years old and does not shed. Shih tzu's are the best. Probably a bit of an anomaly, but ours also does not bark (well, maybe once every few months).

Ours will bark with purpose, but is not at all yappy (the curse of some small dogs). Ours will give us one short bark to tell us she needs to go out, or if her food bowl is empty. We also have a joke about how her "barker" and "growler" gets rusty from not being used, because on the rare occasion when she will get vocal to warn us of something suspicious, she will usually gag and cough afterwards, as if she's not used to doing so lol

Ours only barks if she is really scared of something (big dogs) or is outside and wants in AND we don't notice for a bit. Mostly because her tie out leash has gotten tangled around the deck post and she can't make it up the stairs to the patio door. Normally she stands at the door and we see her and let her in. We also joke about her barker being broken.

We moved last year and have a field and a wooded area behind us, so we get a lot of deer. Once she saw deer outside, very close to our deck and barked TWICE and growled. It was hilarious!

I have a shih tzu. My sweet little Emma Mae. She doesn't shed, but she does need a lot of grooming. Find your self a good groomer and $$$.

We have 2 pooches we rescued - a pure bred shihtzu and a shihtzu/Lhasa Apso mix. Jiko, the shihtzu, doesn’t shed at all. Mickey, the mix, doesn’t seem to either . I am allergic to dogs and I don’t have trouble with these guys. They have so much personality and have won us over to the shihtzu breed.

They are adorable! Marley is my 2nd rescue dog; my first, Rumba, was also a Shih Tzu mix and passed away 4 years ago in November. I am also a lifelong Tzu lover :cutie:

Marley si the same; people are amazed at how little he barks. HOWEVER, God forbid you knock on our back door, or if he hears another loud, unexpected sound!

That face! Love him

Thank you...he is incredibly spoiled and is the best boy in the world :dog2:

One of Marley's "quirks" is that he has a very hard time at the groomer (fights you, bites and growls). We have to take him to the vet for sedation grooming ($$$); we're hoping he'll eventually be able to go to a regular groomer.
