Does anyone NOT care for MK?

that the kids are older. Epcot has always been my favorite and we always start there. This time, we're splitting Epcot into 2 full days instead of me hustling everyone around WS. I want a leisurely stroll this time!! We'll go to MK for one evening and a late afternoon - evening another day but probably won't even set foot in Fantasyland. I like to wander around but we don't do much at MK anymore.

Since Actively Patroling these boards for the last 7-8 months it seems that MK is usually the 1st sometimes second favorite park unless you live and/or grew up by Disneyland and have been there more than 10 times. In this case the Magic Kingdom seems to be an actual let down for everyone I have talked to and myself from the Disneyland area in California the reason is that even though the Magic Kingdom occupies more space there are so many rides missing that it seems much smaller as far as rides go. POTC is literally terrible if you are used to the Disneyland version. There is also no Mr. Toad, Indiana Jones, Materhorn Bobsleds, Casey Jr., Pinoccio, Alice In Wonderland, Storybook Canal, Disneyland also has Star Tours and Small World, Disneyland Railroad, Tiki Room and Space Mountain are also better at Disneyland. So because of going to Disneyland so many times Magic Kingdom would be my 3rd favorite but if I had not gone to Disneyland so many times it could be my favorite.

We spend more time at Epcot and AK, but wouldn't say that MK is not our favorite. That would be Sac-Dis-Religious :sad2:

We have always liked MK and Epcot the best. MK has more to do, but they are both fun. We have always then ranked MGM and then AK. AK seems much nicer than when it originally openned because the foliage has grown in nicely. However, we have found that MGM has the most annoying layout because of the dead ends and such.

We did Indiana Jones and found it to be a high speed Mr. Toad's, nothing more. To tell the truth, Disneyland was a bit of a dissapointment after Disneyworld so many times. I do agree that some of the rides are better in California though.

When I think of Disney, I think of MK. Probably because my original disney experience was all at Disneyland, many many times, not just when we lived in CA, but also when we lived in NJ, & when we lived in OR.

Didn't go to WDW til we moved to OR.

Now we live in TX & go to both!

I don't think I can actually CHOOSE a favorite, I love all of the parks for different things and wouldn't want to skip any of them.

DH on the other hand.... likes to sit on the benches in MK, likes to wander around the stores in MK, but goes on very few rides there. He never went to disney as a kid. So maybe there is some substance to the theory I saw earlier in this thread. Personally, I still like the Fantasyland rides & enjoy riding them with dd11, who is now the only one I can get to ride them with me.

Yep....I'll admit it MK is my least favorite park. The last time we went (DW, 15 year old son) and myself I think we went just to say we went. Couple of hours and we were outta there!

There are 4 parks, water parks and DTD--something for everyone as it should be. If we all liked the same thing we'd all be drinking Heinken's, sushi for appetizers, medium rare filet mignon, stuffed twice baked potatoes and creme brulee for desert (well thats what I like so everyone else must like it also.)

Each park is different, each one unique but all with the Disney magic we dream of.

Bill

As a child of the 50's, I grew up thinking that Disneyland had to be heaven on earth. How could I not love MK???

That's an interesting take on it. If you had limited Disney influences as a kid, is it possible you wouldn't be able to relate to MK as well?
My DH also had limited Disney experiences as a kid (dare I say he had NONE?) - he definitely doesn't feel the magic the same way I do, although he does say MK makes him feel like a kid again - but I'm sure not in the same way as those of us who lived and breathed Disney way back when. :goodvibes
Hmmm....makes sense but my dh went to WDW all the time as a kid (lived in Miami and they were always taking visiting relatives there) and that is precisely why he didn't care to visit again as an adult. I have him hooked now that we've taken the kiddos a couple of times though- he's not a nut like me but he really enjoys it. Even w/out the kids sometimes

Dh and I did this one adult only trip- it was soooo nice to not have to rush! We spent two whole days there. First trip with all the kids, we did it in one day but I wished we'd had an extra day! I think to truly enjoy this park, you need a couple of days.

:crazy2: :scared:  :faint: The utter horror. I can't imagine.

I have to say I agree!!!

Last trip, we started off with Epcot because it was the Food and Wine Festival and I didn't feel like I was at Disney until I got to MK the next morning. I have to start my trip that way.

Of course, I have to admit... I am not the biggest fan of Toontown. It is just the two of us, and no kids, so I don't really enjoy it.

my goodness.

never! it is always the last park i must go to and usually the first too! it's just very special to me. i enjoy many things in the other parks jsut as much or more but MK is very special to me- i must see the castle, the partners statue, ive got to go on the HM, JC, PoC, CoP, SplMt & SpcMt... if I could only go to one I'd miss the others but I think itd have to be the MK or Id feel like I was missing out for sure!

If you wanted to start going on about this my opinion may be different too! I don't care much for it either. Could do without it probably altogether. I don't know why. It's fun sometimes but not a must-see. It's cute and all but not that important to me. :confused3

EDIT: Id also have to say that EPCOT is my least favourite. My DBF and I went last summer- my 18th bday and he was still only 17 1/2-and we decided unanimously that we arent old enough to truely enjoy EPCOT yet :rotfl2: although I do like it, it was easy for us to do in a day. We needed to spend a lot more time in the MK. I think we are 'young at heart' and that is perhaps one reason why.

The Magic Kingdom is definitely my LEAST favorite park for 2 reasons. The wait times for rides can be ridiculous and I'm from So. California, so I've been to Disneyland many many times which is very similiar to MK.

We just returned from our very first trip yesterday. With two kids ages 5 and 6 who don't particularly like rides, AK and Epcot were much better for us. My kids love learning and don't really like costume characters (although they love princesses), and MK was full of rides, costume characters, and shopping, none of which were tops on our list.

Also, MK was so unbelievably crowded!!!!! And hot!!!!! There is no shade there! And people were pushing each other all over the place!

I asked my kids to rank the parks with "OK," "Good," or "Great." With no prompting from me, both of them said that AK and Epcot were great and that MK was OK.

I think the parks were so crowded because of Memorial weekend, a time where most families plan their vacations.

MK has become my least favorite mostly because of the crowds. Even during non peak times it's still much more crowded than the other parks. DD (she's 7 1/2) also feels the same way believe it or not. There are only a few things she likes to do at MK and then she's ready to leave.

 Wow MK is our favorite park! Infact most of the time we're at other parks I'm usually thinking about when we're park hopping back to MK! For me MK is just the first thing that comes to mind when I think about WDW it's not so much the rides but the history behind it and how no matter how old I am as soon as I walk in the park I feel like I'm 5 again. Maybe it's just me but MK is what WDW is all about! :cloud9:

Well MK used to be number 3 for me, then i rode EE at AK on last trip and i have to say that Mk is now my 4th choice. I still like it, but if i had to choose Ak is now ahead in my book.

I just think Mk is the most "kiddie" of them all (I realize Disney must do this too), but some areas just don't interest my aging family at all really. luckily i don't have to choose one to skip as we always take one big trip a year and get to do each park 2-3 times each if we wish to. :goodvibes

We like MK, but we never go for the whole day. We'll usually go for a half day at the most because we just don't like how crowded it gets.

I'm in the Disneyland wins hands down camp. The first time I went to the Magic Kingdom I was 23 and had been to Disneyland at least 100 times (I never kept count, but that's an estimate including a few years with an Annual Pass). I was disappointed by the Magic Kingdom. So many things seemed so dated to me, and I felt that Main Street was so much more commercialized. I know Disney is a big commercial, but the fact there was no penny arcade or movie theater really made me sad. And don't get me started by the laughable POTC in MK or the rough Space Mountain. There are some things I love about MK (peoplemover, TSI, BTMR, Liberty Square), but overall it's a half day park for me. Oh, I do enjoy Crystal Palace, though.

Even though I don't love MGM, I'd still put it over MK since I can't play Millionaire in California anymore. But then Animal Kingdom isn't great enough to be number two is it? I guess I don't really go to WDW for the parks, I go for the entire vacation experience.
