Over the last 32 years we have had a Frigidaire, Maytag, Bosch and now a Whirlpool dishwasher. The Frigidaire was what came with the house and was loud and expensive to repair. The Maytag leaked and wiped out our kitchen floor, the Bosch was quiet and expensive. The Whirlpool is only a year old. None of them washes dishes as well as my mom's 1960 Westinghouse dishwasher. But THAT dishwasher used about 4 times as much water, used very hot water, and ran about 3 times longer. Anything on the dishes never stood a chance.
We ended up going through our contractor's high end appliance supplier for the Whirlpool. Salesman was great. Pointed out stainless steel interiors are great, but he had never seen a plastic interior break in 35 years. He felt anything over $500 was probably going to give comparable life. Our choices were based on rack layout and models that were available in the color we wanted, or a color at all. Stainless steel has become the only option with some companies.
