underdesea said:During our January trip to the World this year, my DH and I had lunch at Tepanyaki (spelling?) in the Japan pavilion. Across the room, someone celebrating a birthday received a special chef's hat, a dessert and a round of singing from the CMs. We were all wrapping up the meal and paying our checks at our table, but suddenly, the mom of the family we shared a table with "remembered" that both of her children were celebrating their birthdays that day. Now, I suppose that the children, who were several years apart, could have been born on the same day, but not a word had been said about anyone's birthday all through the meal. In any case, despite the fact that the checks were being paid--including her own--and people were leaving, the mom tracked down our server and made her kids stay put. My DH and I ducked out of there to avoid watching the "celebration" LOL.
I read this one after the post I just made. I had to laugh b/c it does seem unlikely that 2 kids share a birthday, and it does sound as if she wasn't being truthful. That being said, my younger sister and I are 2 years apart, and we DO share the very same birthday. Whenever our parents took us out, people were usually nice about it, but I get the feeling sometimes we weren't believed, especially since sis and I look nothing alike! lol

I think everyone understands that people have different ways of celebrating that don't fall easily into their vacation plans. I thought the whole idea was that this person was lying JUST to get the cupcake, and was not celebrating anything at all. Maybe I was wrong, but I think that's what everyone is meaning when they say that it is wrong to do that, not that it is wrong to use that time to celebrate if the occasion is near. And I don't think anyone is saying that someone is a "bad person" if they don't celebrate on the exact day - I think nearly everyone has said the opposite. Everyone needs to calm down, take a deep breath, and reeeelllaaaaxxxx.
***POOF!***
