Does anyone know where to buy good quality luggage.. CHEAP?

Macys sometimes has really good deals on luggage... even cheaper with the newspaper coupons! (Or cardholder discounts)

We love our LL Bean rolling duffels. Reasonably priced and they have the lifetime guarantee.

I got my luggage at Sams club. Its a Heys hardside special edition breast cancer awareness set (20" carryon & 26"). It was on clearance for $78! Sams currently has a 2pc Heys hardside set for $97. I love that the luggage is so lightweight but so durable.

We each have the eBags Mother Lode TLS Weekender Convertible. We only do carry-on and these bags are fantastic! You can put so much in them and they are easy to carry as you use them like a backpack. Also, if you provide your email address, you will receive discount offers...I believe we ended up paying about $70 each. Customer service is great as well.

My luggage is Eddie Bauer from Target on Clearance.
It is good luggage.

DH and I went on a long trip with my sister and her husband and we only took carryons.

We used our carryons from the Eddie Bauer set as we already had them, but sis and her hubby got the Heys.

They are great!
I would love to have that luggage, (but can't justify it when I have perfectly fine luggage, you know?)
And they roll instead of just having wheels.
And they roll really easily.
Not only that but the Heys are really good looking bags too.

And they are light and if your bag is limited to 50 pounds it is good to have a bag that does not weigh a lot.

On another trip with big luggage, DS was rolling her suitcase while my arm was aching from pulling mine.
I was getting som exercise I guess, but i was looking enviously at her bag as she rolled it along with two fingers...

I am really surprised with the miss information to what really is a good quality luggage. One of my best friend have been Samsonite manager for years and I used to help him during holiday season. We also had a very close family friend that work in luggage over 30 years. American tourister is the cheaper version of a Samsonite bag and offers no guarantee at all. In Samsonite there is many levels of quality and the guarantee is different. Some of they lines that are more expensive have life time guarantee. Most have a 10 year guarantee. In the store we see the bags that come in to get repair and it more than a little scary :scared1:. Tumi pulled their life time guarantee on their bags a couple of years ago. All hard cases will get very scratch so keep in mind when you buy them because after the first trip they won't look the same. With that being said we own 2 sets. The first is Samsonite Pro DLX which is their top of the line lifetime guarantee and the bag still looks new after many many trips. We recently got the heys disney set which we now it will get scratch so we plan to take that road trip only. The only luggage that I can say it keep well over a very long period of time will be my grandparents Hartmann set. They have own it for over 20 years, the bags look very good still and they have travel almost around the world with it. Yes you will pay more but you will hands down get ore time than with a regular piece of luggage.

I also got my luggage at TJMaxx. I bought two matching pieces, but got each at a different location. Far as I can tell it was there because the color was discontinued.

Columbia upright in a bright blue was, I think $70 or $80. It looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-21-U...GS/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1301066439&sr=8-10

It's much bigger that that, but can't recall exactly the size. What I do know is that packing it full puts it at just about 50 lbs which is perfect - no overweight surprises at the airport.

I also got the matching rolling duffel for, I think $40 or 50. It's borderline for carryon. Some airlines allow it, for others it's just over the limits. Even on AirTran, I carry it on then gate check it for free. I love it for a weekend away and it never rolls off the wheels like some smaller bags do.

Thanks everyone for all your ideas.. I love the rolling duffle bag idea.. We usually have a lot of stuff.. but, I would like to just check in 1 bag and have the rest be carryon's..

The rolling duffels (or "stuffels" as my dad calls them, because you always stuff them full :) ) are great for carry-on. Just make sure the length doesn't exceed 21 or 22 inches, any longer and it won't fit in the overhead and you'll have to gate check. 21 is what is allowed by most airlines, but I have a 22 inch one and it still fits (and as long as it fits, the FA's don't give a flying fig what the dementions are). Just remember that if you check a rolling duffel that it's even less "rigid" than a traditional rolling suitcase which means that fragile things will be more supseptable to damage, so keep that in mind when packing a duffel you're going to check. Either carry on all fragile items or go with a more rigid peice for checking.

Sears has a luggage sale right now. I can't comment on the quality yet, as I just placed my order 2 days ago and haven't received it yet, but I ordered a 7 piece set of American Tourister luggage for under $100.00, with coupon codes. Apparently this is the cheaper version of Samsonite with no warranty according to pp, but it looks nice enough and for less than $100.00 for 7 pieces I am really not concerned about that.

Something to be careful about when buying luggage (anywhere, really, but especially at closeout discounters) is that you REALLY need to measure it yourself. Don't trust the dimensions that are given on the label, because they are nearly always off by a bit, and making sure that that "bit" doesn't exceed the airline's limits can be important.

What I do is carry a tape measure with me when luggage shopping, and wheel the bag over to the linens department and put packages of sheets inside until it is as full as it would be when packed. THEN I measure it. (And of course I put the sheets back just as I found them when I've finished doing so.)

PS: About the hardside bags. It is best to avoid the glossy-finish ones if you can, but if not, you can protect them a bit by putting a coat of automobile wax on them; it helps protect the luggage in the same way that it does your car. Heys makes a pebbled "diamond finish" shell that holds up better than the smooth ones.

I usually don't post here but i saw it in last post and had to say that I have found great luggage at Marshall and TJ maxx.

i need to buy a new piece of luggage as well...so i read this thread - i was orignally thinking of buying the hard case luggage..i see them all the time at Marshalls, but now i'm thinking about the rolling duffel - do u find that the cloths wrinkle more or is it pretty much the same as an upright?

thanks...

also on the subject of luggage, does anyone use garment bags anymore? going on a cruise and will have a few dressy outfits wondering if i should buy a garment bag or just fold them carefully..

I purchased a nice Tommy Hilfiger set for our tip to Disney at Marshall's. Another place you might try is Overstock. They usually have extremely cheap or no shipping (plus no sales tax). And the prices are pretty good on quality brands.

I needed a new suitcase. I got a nice rolling one at Kohl's. It was a $199 suitcase and I ended up paying $53. It's the size between the carryon one and the huge one, and it's lightweight.

I used to bring 1 garment bag for 2 people's dressy clothes for a cruise. But they hold so little and with having to pay per piece of luggage, I don't anymore. If I flew SW, I probably would.

I just fold carefully and don't worry about a wrinkle or two.

Cheap luggage's kinda fine for a while. But soon handles break, wheels don't work or fall off, zippers break and finally you spend some more money buying another piece of luggage :) Looks like you're interested in something that is sturdy / durable, yet is good value for money. Given this, I would seriously recommended checking out the Bergman luggage online store for best price, selection and service. Bergman Luggage online store allows you to choose luggage according to your trip requirements (items, duration, etc.).

Thanks

I would recommend Costco. The should have discounts in flyers as well. On a trip a few years ago we had a piece fall aprt and went to an all night Walmart and found a large piece for a very reasonable price. We still have it and it wears very well American Tourist. We atke 3 -4 trips a year it is currently on its 5 year. Great piece. Good Luck.
