We will be coming up from the Keys in late March. Would love to talk my dear hubby into a stayover at the Fort after the Keys.
BUT will I run into Spring Break?
We would be there around March 28th.:surfweb:

Different schools, different Spring Breaks. Ours are Apr 5-9, but we have grandkids with breaks from a couple week before to a couple weeks after that. Auburn Univ Mar 15-20, Univ of GA Mar 8-12. You pays yer money, you takes yer chances.

Every county in Florida has its own school system, and each county sets its own calendar. So, spring breaks dates vary. The Fort is usually busy for the entire month of March and April. In 2010, Easter Sunday is April 4. You can be sure that the Fort will probably be full to capacity the week before and the week after Easter. You can probably still get a site now, so you should reserve one now, even if you are just thinking about it, as there may be none left to reserve as the date gets closer.

Since others might be interested in when Spring Breaks fall in 2010, here is a link to a poll that is going on over on the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies thread:

Spring Break 2010 Poll

It looks like the week after Easter will be the busiest.

As TCD stated. Easter is April 4th. Would try to avoid the week before and week after.
The pictures posted of the crowds during Easter week this year about made me faint. It was bad!!!

You can make reservations now and always cancel. They book room/site only reservations 499 days out from your departure date.

We are booked on a premium site for March 4-8, 2010 and are paying a hefty rate. I was told that it is peak season because of Spring Break. So I think the entire month of March and some of April will be impacted by Spring Break! But the weather is great that time of year, so enjoy it!

:goodvibes Thanks for all the good info. especially the poll. I read it is peak season which means nothing to me.

What difference in price from reg. season to peak season.

This could really make a difference, we just can't seem to stay away from camping since we got the camper in May of this year.

LOL to alll campers shirley 38:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

March 28, 2010 is the week before Easter (April 4th) ... expect the crowds!!!

The weeks wrapping Easter are always the busiest!

Shirley, I can't tell you a comparison of the reg vs. pre-season price, but I can tell you our rate for a premium campsite for Mar. 4 - 8, 2010 is $119/night. I thought that was steep. I don't have a lot to compare it to since we have only been to the Fort twice, but we just paid $81 for a premium site for Labor Day weekend and will be paying $110 (barring any rate increases) for Memorial Day next year. I thought the March rate was steep and the reservations agent said it was peak season. Hope that helps somewhat.

Spring break always seems to coincide with large groups of kids. I've noticed that.

Man, I wanna be as smart as Jim when I grow up! :lmao:

Now, to answer the OP question, all you have to do is check the rate calendar:

Peak season ($$$) starts around Feb 15 and goes till Mar 28 or so.
Holiday-Easter season ($$$$) picks up and goes till Apr 10.

So, the Fort and probably all of WDW will be packed with the spring break crowd.

We often stop at FW on our way back from Key West. In Ontario spring break is 3rd week of March, and we usually take 2 weeks so are coming back at about the same time as you are talking about. We leave Key West at about 6:00am and arrive at the Fort at about 2:00pm, go for a swim, pizza at Crocket's, do the campfire and then head for home the next day. Compared to October the campground pool has WAY more people in it in March and I can only imagine how busy the parks are. We seriously considered spending a few days on our way back from Key West to do the Disney thing, but I just could not stand the thought of dealing with that many people in the parks. So instead we are making a separate trip to Disney in 2 weeks, Oct.2, to do the disney thing hopefuly without the crowds and then back to Key West in March 2010. Yes, call we crazy, but I would rather drive another 3000 miles to make a separate disney trip, to avoid waiting in lines. We have been there in October before and experienced minimal crowds. I just hope there are no hurricanes. The rate for a premium site is $72, with CAA/AAA discount we got it for $57.60.
Pete

P.S. Shirley where do you camp in the Keys? We will be at Sugarloaf KOA for only one week this time, March 13-20 2010.
