we are supposedly flying from Milwaukee to the world on Tuesday light is at 1230

we set to get a ton of snow starting sun night through Mon--there not saying how much which is scary

SW already has a travel advisory for sun into mon nothing yet for Tuesday

but my question is what happens if we cant get out on Tuesday but we can get a flight wed

if we call will they keep our room seeing well be there the next day

I figured there was going to be an issue--everything just fell into place --from getting cheap fares I had enough points for a free one way flight--extending our stay due to high air (it was cheaper to come home on wed instead of tues) and I was able to get moonlight magic tickets since we were there the extra day

so if any of you have any advice on what I should be doing or what could possibly happen

please let me know--this is just so stressful not knowin whats going to happen

thanks all

Call and let them know that because of the weather you will be checking in a day late because of weather delays. You most likely will lose the points for that night, but they will hold the room for you.

During Hurricanes they have made allowances for owners who couldn't fly in, but that was because they needed the rooms because people couldn't fly out either. But it never hurts to ask, I would think that with so many people from up North (were from New England) that it might be common for them to work things out with their owners who like to venture out of the cold.

Yes, call MS.

Ditto bobbiwoz! Exceptions to the normal DVC rules are possible.
My two stories:
1. DCL
Once in a life time exception is possible. I got one for DD for a cruise booked on points, when her BiL was KIA in Iraq during the first week of the war. We were booked on a DCL, the funeral was schedule during the cruise, so I called MS, and they refunded her points after I provided proof.
2.DVC
Dec 2018 I had to cancel a reservation for the weekend after Jan 1, 2019 made with next UYs borrowed points, of course they went into Holding.
I called the next week to try and book something with these holding points. MS took a look at my history with DVC, granted me an exception by removing the holding status of the points, and then moving the points back to their original UY.

If you do something preemptively, your points may go into holding. If you are dealing with an actual flight cancellation, Member Services is generally very helpful.

This happened to us a few years back. Flying out of Buffalo in March. Wicked snow storm and airport closed for 2 days and flights backed up for 4 days. This happened on the first day we were supposed to fly out. Drove back to Toronto, normal 2 hours, took 7. During the drive we were on the phone with member service, they understood. Put our points back for the 2 days we would miss, rebooked our dinners and made sure we were not dinged for no shows on the first 2 nights. We did get a flight out of Toronto, but lost 2 days of the vacation. Wife will never fly out of Buffalo again.
LOL I still do.

dont 4get about magic express. That dept left me hi & dry when we had hurricane issues. They are not flexable in any kind of way

In relation to the weather, I would do all you can get get out at that time on Tuesday. The snow is supposed to stop by 6 am Monday, and then they are calling for a high of around -15 on Wednesday. Tuesday looks like your best odds for getting out, as it is possible they may ground flights on Wednesday due to the extreme cold.

We had three rooms booked at Vero two weeks ago and had to cancel because my son works for the government, he was getting Paid all along but then they told him funding was running out and he had to be in work on Tuesday with no pay he was due to fly home on Tuesday so we had to change. Of course no rooms available for the day before they did not put my points in holding. Wait list never came thru but two days before a two bedroom showed up and we took it. Worked out great we were all in one room and had a great time. We were there to meet the wedding planner so everything worked out.

I am glad that Member services helped you out without penalties.

I am surprised your son was allowed to take leave, unless it was when he was still being paid. It is standard procedure for government workers that are either furloughed or on mandatory work without pay are not allowed to take vacations. Sure the furloughed ones are off work, but technically they have to report to work within hours if called back, so you really cannot take vacations, that you can't pay for anyway. If you don't return to work when called you can be fired and are considered AWOL, absent without leave. BTW, DH and I were both government workers had over 60 years of work between us before retirement, we went through furloughs and mandatory work without pay yearly.

At the time he was Being paid so he was able to take time off, but they were suppose to have money until Feb 5 but then they changed it to Jan. 20 so that is why he had to be back.

This would be case by case and not covered under the hurricane policy. DVC is often accommodating, sometimes too much so, so I'd give them a call. They'll hold the room and may credit you the points back.
