Does Anyone know What Happened to Rogers the Musical?

Did they put it on a cruise ship? Move to a foreign park like Paris maybe? It seemed like a lot of effort went into the casting, effects, staging for a show that just ran two months in summer. Maybe actors had to go back to college..I just don’t have any answers.

Thought (actually more like praying 🤣) it might resurface this summer but it looks like they are content to leave that theatre sitting vacant. Maybe this is the new Disney business model…hey, let’s spend a bunch of money and if people like it, we’ll shut it down…or discontinue it (if it’s food or a product).

You insiders please enlighten me here…I’d really love to hear that “why, yes, it’s traveling the world on the Disney cruise line.” I really enjoyed the show and would be happy to give them more of my money to see it again.

But I will say, it’s odd that there were so many more LIVE shows at WDW when we went last November. Granted, they’ve been around forever but it’s nice to have a break from just riding rides, especially for us older folks. You think LA would have plenty of talent available. I remember (yes, it’s old people talk I know 🤣) when there were shows at all the available venues…Frozen and Aladdin went on for years at Hyperion, and I saw a Hunchback show at the Fantasyland Theatre, something to eat up the crowds. Maybe that’s why it always seems so crowded on the walkways, there’s nothing for people to do besides a parade.🤔

Thoughts?

Money

Disney wanted to get some people in and while it did well the show was not selling out as much a Disney wants to pay for shows...so its gone and never came back...despite it being good for guests

Nope, he's not here with us in Paris! Although there are 2 theatres reasonably close to our Marvel area, they decided to put a Disney Jr. and a Pixar show in those.

Don't think Captain America is that popular in Europe. You see some of his merch, but not more or less than any other Marvel character.
Think Spiderman is more popular over here.

It was great! We paid extra for the front row seating, pop-corn, credentials, pictures, etc. and it was worth it (to us). We saw it on the last day of our trip, the last week it was playing.

I still remember the marquee after it was over (someone posted it on the internet) that hinted at a return.

Unless you have insider info that you'll like to share, all this is just speculation and guessing. Let's not make up info :)

Yes..and it was that HINT that gave me such false hope! Like maybe they had to make a few changes and it would be back. It would be a shame for them to tear down that theatre but right now, that whole end of CA is pretty useless. Aside from Monsters and a nice bathroom..there’s nothing there.

Thanks, Karin! I just know that you, too, have an AC (cause I’ve seen that cool spirit jersey you have that we didn’t get) so I thought just maybe it was a chance.

On the show not filling up every show my source is Freshbaked

As for the Money thing, I can read between the lines....the Club Pixar is none gone, no entertainment in the golden horse shoe and Lion King was not a stage show until they put it in Fantasyland because they just wanted something there

The Live entertainment budget since Covid has been much lower then in the past, we used to get fire works every day now we have days where its just projections....even of the park is sold out.

I don't know who that person is, how do they get their data? Where they there on every show?

From my personal experience, the day I went to watch it the theater was full and the line for the next show was huge as well.

Fresh baked is like the Disneyland Blogger. Goes all the time and reports on crowds, has inside sources because he was been doing it for over 10 years.

Were you going on Weekend days only? That could affect what you saw

Also I'm just remembering the show wasn't even 7 days a week....yeah Disney is just cutting the live budget. As you said if it was full then why cut a successful show when DCA needs more attractions

they always said Rogers was going to be a limited run.
They've slowly been adding live entertainment back in to the parks over the last year. For sure, the ones that are missing are the ones at Hyperion and the Fantasyland Theater, which are the big ones, but if you compare the live entertainment now compared to a year ago, it is quite better now.

As far as Rogers goes, I do think it was a great show, but at least for me, it was a one and done, it didn't have the repeatability like Aladdin or even Frozen. You really had to be watching Disney+ to understand why it even existed.

Yeah, the whole thing was an in-joke. I wonder how many people went to the show without having seen "Hawkeye" and what they thought of it. I suppose they took it as a real tribute to the superheroes. Which it is on one level, but...

I believe it was dark on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday because those are the days I usually go and I was only able to see it one day (Thursday) as I was returning home on Friday.

I understand that it was a “limited run” but still…it wasn’t a cheap production, I don’t know, it just seemed an odd investment to make for two months. But then what do I know? I’m not a theme park executive or a Disney influencer.

As for adding live entertainment back,I guess we should just be thankful for Fantasmic finally returning. Oh, yes..and don’t forget…they mixed a new soundtrack for the fireworks so they can promote that a new attraction from SWGE.

And speaking for those of us with some longevity (and I know who you are😊), I remember when there were no fireworks, except on weekends and holidays and projections weren’t even a thought in anyone’s mind. You came at night, enjoyed the ambience, danced to a band in Tomorrowland if you chose and just enjoyed the rides. Maybe enjoyed a little smooching on the Skyway….

Anyway, that’s enough about RTM. I was just hoping it didn’t die but alas, I guess RIP.

My mom has literally only seen the Iron Man movies and the first of the Avengers movies, and NOTHING ELSE, and she really loved Rogers: The Musical. I know that's anecdotal evidence, but the show itself is essentially just a summation of Captain America's arc in the films, so you don't really need to know much going in. Tonally, it might throw people off because it's meant to be silly and not serious. But plot wise, it's all in the show.

We really need to stop treating vloggers as news sources. I have nothing against FreshBaked, but he's not a source and he does get things wrong. In any case, it was always busy when I was there, on weekends and weekdays. And as someone who stood in line for the premium package, they were selling plenty of those as well. But just like FreshBaked and others, that's anecdotal evidence and only Disney knows the real numbers.

I do wish it had stuck around or come back, as I enjoyed the show a lot. But overall it just makes no sense to not have SOMETHING going on in Hyperion, regardless of what it is. Right now, it's a waste of space.

I have nothing against this particular blogger either and I find some of his videos compelling. I will say that he frequently says things in his videos that are just flat out wrong. Just because someone writes or says something doesn't make it true.

This so so much. Being a vlogger doesn't give anybody any legitimacy to what they are saying. Like sure, if you want them to show you the latest merch in the parks or the latest food offering then there is no issue, but vloggers don't know anything about Disney's true reasons anymore than we do here.

I wish the show would come back too. My group and truly enjoyed it, and if not that then I wouldn't be opposed to other shows in the similar vein of "fun musical retelling". Give me a fun retelling of Luke Skywalker :D

In my eyes why I think Rogers The Musical had a short life at the Hyperion Theater is because I think Marvel has plans to turn Rogers The Musical into a Broadway musical and when you take a scene from a Marvel series the way Hawkeye turned Rogers The Musical into an actual musical the results can work while some ideas fail "Remember Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark?. But I think that when it comes to shows DCA has become the weakest link because whenever they debut a show it becomes a huge monster hit that people go to see because it'll get rave reviews than it disappears and is no longer seen forever. Look at Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Play It and look at Blast and once Blast ended it's run Aladdin A Musical Spectacular replaced it and that show was a hit and when the Aladdin show ended it's run Frozen Live At The Hyperion began it's run and Frozen was a hit also. I think what also led to the demise of Rogers The Musical was how much money it cost DCA to run that show and how much money they gave the actors and understudies that performed in it. Because when you look at it when Disney Parks especially Disneyland and DCA have shows they probably pay the performers a big amount of money to perform in the shows and not to mention audition costs for casting actors as well. But I do agree that DCA needs to have another hit show that will draw people in rather than just create new parades because when you get the general picture the shows are free to attend at Disneyland and DCA with your ticket admission and if DCA would create a hit show like Rogers The Musical it would be a hit and as the founder of Men's Wherehouse once said "I Guarantee It"

I think DCA and Disneyland wants to focus more on parades rather than shows because they think in their mind parades are easy to create and draw people into the parks and why they closed Rogers The Musical in the first place was because as I mentioned in my previous post it cost DCA a lot of money to create and by auditioning actors to play the parts of the characters is a big job. But I agree that DCA and Disneyland need to come up with original shows that draw people into the park. At least Disneyland brought Fantasmic back which is probably the big popular show there but we need more ideas for good shows at Disneyland and DCA rather than have Disneyland create parades because I think that's their big obsession now. But I agree that Rogers The Musical should've been given a longer run and I also think that Disney will put it on DVD in the future to show newcomers how awesome this play was
