Does anyone know the difference between a Motel and a Hotel?

Ok, while we're on the subject, what the heck is the defination of a bed and breakfast?

Bed and Breakfast = freaky house(s) where the main building has a big dining area where they cook you homecooked meals. Very country living-esque. They are usually a little too flowery for my taste. I think most are just one big house.

Once we stayed at one that was actually pretty neat. I believe it was in North Carolina and it was a bunch of buildings put together...kinda like Villas, but it was like a bed and breakfast too where there was a main house wehre the ppl that ran it lived and served food. Anyway, it was an extremely large acreage of land with tennis courts, horseshoes, pool, and apple trees. And the houses were reallly old and all shapes and sizes. The one we were in fit 10-15 easily. It was a huge house, and it was all of my family members, no strangers. I have no idea what the price was on that though.

Hotels are more than one floor, motels are one floor.

A motel is what Norman Bates owned, and I think I stayed there one night. It was in upstate New York, in the middle of nowhere, and it was exactly like the one in Psycho, complete with a Norman Bates.

There seems to be a consensus already, but to add my 2 cents....

My original thought at the question was "About $40 a night."

The terms no long mean anything, they are just part of a name. In general any more, a motel is used to describe a limited service establishment that does not have more than a coffee shop on premises and does not have a lobby.

AAA that does the diamond rating system does not differentiate between the two classifications. The American Hotel and Motel Association officially changed their name not too far back to the American Hotel and Lodging Association to reflect this change in terminology.

Hotel = lobby, interior hallway access to room, multi-storied, usually more than one dining option, room service, parking far away from your car, and a bar in the lobby :woohoo: Hotels can range from budget to opulent.

Motel = exterior access to room, no lobby, limited to no food service option, no bar :sad2:

Disney = offer motel and hotel accomodations (with parking far away from your car) and call them resorts. :teeth:

everybody go, hotel motel holiday inn say if your girl starts actin up, then you take her friend. :music:

Mine was, "One starts with 'M', one starts with 'H'", but I didn't think that would be too helpful... :rotfl:

The roaches in a Hotel wear ties and jackets. While the ones in a motel just go naked. :teeth:
