I'm hoping to get a ton of these to hand out for Halloween (we get about 250-300 kids). My son is diabetic, so I hate giving out candy :)

I thought Silly Bands might be fun, but the only place I could think of for large amounts of them was Oriental Trading, and the reviews on them say they're horrible.

Has anyone else found someplace fairly cheap to buy a lot of them? Or if you have a better idea, I'd love to hear it!

Our Dollar stores and Family Dollar has them for a ...$1.00. Not sure of the quality but probably not that great, plus I would think that they might be a choking hazard to younger kids. I am also trying to think of something better to hand out besides candy that does not break the bank! I thought of pencils for older kids and I always have safety suckers on hand for the smaller kids!
I want ideas too! Anybody????

I understand why you don't want to hand out candy given your situation but my children go trick or treating because they DO want candy and/or treats (to eat). Candy and other junk type of snacks are greatly limited in our house during the year so being able to get them for Halloween is a big deal. Silly bands would get thrown away because they have so many of them and because I find them all over my house and they end up getting caught in the bottom of the vacuum cleaner.

How about other snacks such as popcorn, crackers, chewing gum (the sugar free kind which is better for their teeth anyways)?

I usually hand out candy but always try to have other things too. At our Target they had glow bracelets & necklaces in their $1 section. The bracelets had 35 in the tube & I think the necklaces had between 15-25. (The lady next door to my SIL gives these out and they are HUGE hits with all the kids...she does not give out any candy whatsoever. She gives out rings, the glow stuff, pencils, etc)

I have also done pencils (from the Dollar Tree), rings, bracelets, also coloring pages that I xeroxed at work.

I have a DD who is fed with a gt so she candy eat candy. I try to go to the houses that I know give out things like play doh..etc.

Yes, I have seen then at Target for $1.00 a pack and at the Christmas Tree Store for $3.00 but those were the Disney ones. That would obviously turn out too high..

I saw Wholesale 600 SILLY BANDZ HOT 5 STYLES Lots 50 packs on ebay for $39.99. Not sure what your budget is.

We were picking up dd's birthday stuff at Iparty this weekend and most of their silly bandz (name brand!) were 75% off!!! Exclusions were few, NFL/NHL/MLB and college logos... even the Disney ones were 75% off. I hope they're still there when we go back next week for her goodie bag stuff :)

Same price at mine too, all silly bands were 75% off, but is anyone wearing them anymore becaue my kids arn't, the schools have all baned them.

My DD just bought some of the bands at Walmart last night because they had a pack of just horse ones. They are terrible! You can't even tell that they are horses!

Not that this is helpful for this year, but last year after Halloween I bought a ton of stickers, tattoos, fake fangs, etc at Walmart for 90% off. I love that I have tons of junk to give out this year! (The kids can't give out candy at school, so all this junk will be for their classes). Maybe you can find some good deals on things for next year?

Silly Bandz are a fun idea!

We hand out glow bracelets. The kids love them because it is different. Parents love them because they can see their children. :rotfl:

dont remember where i saw it but there was a large tub of silly bandz for 20 bucks in the halloween section

Never thought of silly bandz and it's a great idea. They have not been banned in schools around here and are still really hot. I see them traded on the busses and at the ballpark daily. Certain types are still hard to find.

With 400 kids during Trick or Treat, I would also be looking for them on the cheap. I personally would not let my child eat popcorn/apples or unwrapped food given out from a stranger's door.

Not silly bandz, but I just got a pack of 80 small playdohs for $10 at Costco.

I was going to say the same thing. I got those for my son's preschool b/c we have a peanute allergy in his class. That was a great price! My mom had me get some for her also b/c she couldn't find anyone around her that could come close to that price.

I gave play doh last year and couldn't believe the comments the kids were making. they were thrilled to get it, I expected to hear "junk playdoh, we want candy" etc...
We get at least 500 kids too, they come in bus loads. We have only one child on our street, my grandson, and only 3-4 houses even give out candy.
A few years ago a moving van type truck pulled onto the street and at least 50 kids piled out the back, it is that ridiculous.
I am running out to Cotsco today to pick up that playdoh, that is alot less than I paid last year.

Last year I bought stuff from Oriental Trading to hand out and it went over pretty well. It seemed like if it was at least a decent size item, the kids were happy w/ it. Eraser tops for pencils, bookmarks, etc. I can't say that it cost me less than candy, w/ the cost of shipping, etc. but I tried. This year I'm just going w/ candy because it's easier to get. I only hand out chocolate, because that is better for teeth than Skittles, Starbursts, etc. So that costs me more, but I feel better about it. When we go through my kid's booty, we throw out all of that stuff. :thumbsup2

The ones from Oriental Trading are quite good. Don't understand why they had a bad rating? We bought several hundred for prizes at our balloon pop for National Night Out and the kids went :banana:over them.
