Does anyone know if the 2008 DP still allows children to order Adult CS meals?

I guess my topic says it all. I know last year DD was allowed to order off of the adult menu at most CS resturaunts. The only place we were not allowed was the commissary at DHS. The only way we found out was we were at Cosmic Rays one night and DD was wanting a Cheeseburger and I will telling her what was on the children's menu and the girl ringing us up told us she could order off the adult menu that the plan did not differentiate between adults and children at CS meals.

It depends on the location. Technically the answer is No. A child can't ever order off of the Adult's menu.

Exactly the computer doesn't know the differance... so from the way i see it we can order our DS a darn cheese burger too! :) what i've read that you can do is have one parent order all meals and then the other and the kids go sit down.. then you can order say 3 adult meals and no they would know the differance... OR does it state ont he KTTK the # of adults and # of kids????

DS isn't going to be happy if there have cheeser burgers somewhere and he has to eat mac n cheese or PBJ ... i'm still looking for some one who has actully used the plan this way.

I found this on the unoffical guide site while i was reading updates after finally finishing up the book....

" Update 9 Jan 2007 Disney seems to have closed the loophole in their computer system that allowed adults to use child meal credits. As of early 2007, adults can only use adult meal credits on the plan. "

Wonder how it's being handled at places like pizza planet (a must for us well DS anyways! LOL) ....

It does state on the cards how many adults and children are on the plan. We were there in June 07. We were not trying to be deceptive or break the rules we only started ordering her adult meals after we were told by CM it was okay to do so at CS. At the time I figured they may have started doing that because so many complained about the Children's menues at CS. We did this at Cosmic Rays (MK), Electric Umbrella (Epcot) and the Food Court at ASMovies on many occassions. DD was usually standing with me with her food when we paid and often placed her own order. At the end of the week the CM at the Commissary at DHS would not let DD order from Adult Menu that was when I realized it was obviously not standard Disney Policy. She told me the CM's should always look at the ticket and should never let children order adult meals. We will not set out to deceive anyone but if those same resturants will let DD get a cheeseburger this year we will do the same again. (If not I guess I will be eating a lot of chicken nuggets and Mac and Cheese and letting dd eat my meal) I do not understand why they do not have a hamburger option on the children's menus (I can't remember if they had hotdogs). After this year she will be 10 so it will no longer be an issue for us.

thanks i wasn't sure at all how that went... then how the heck could they do this last year???

Unless they have changed it this year the computer does not tell the difference between adults and children on counterservice. Every time you use the plan the receipt prints out how many meals you have left. If I am remembering correctly for cs it did not break down adults and children's. For example we are going for ten nights this year so we would begin the week with our reciept showing 30 CS meals, if we all three order a meal then it would show 27 CS meals left, not 18 adults and 9 children's. I guess it is up to the resturaunt to enforce children eating off the children's menu. As I stated we were allowed to do this numerous times and I thought it was okay. I don't know if some CM's are not picky with this or if certain resturaunts do not care if it is enforced. DD ate Breakfast (not sure if they have a children's breakfast), Lunch, and Supper at different occassions at the ASMovies food court and ordered adult meals and it was never an issue. Now this was 07 in 08 they may break it down to adults and children like they do TS and that is what I was wondering about. I have actually thought about calling and see how much it would cost to change dd to an adult. She loves all kinds of foods and it bums her out to have to order the same old thing at all the TS resturaunts. At coral reef last year I ate her pizza so she could order off the adult menu because I am not that big on seafood anyway.

Usually, our DD never had a problem with the kids menu. In the rare case she had ODed on Mac n cheese,my DH would order his food with his card, and I would order my DD and my food with my card. This avoided any confusion as to why 3 adult meals were ordered when our cards said 2 A,1CHILD.This was done only when the kids meals were not suitable, not to cheat DISNEY.As others have said many cast members encourage this if the child does not like the options. They have been known to say things like"no problem this is Disney".We did as I mentioned above to avoid confusion.Hope this helps. :goodvibes

Has anyone actually been able to buy a child (3-9) a regular adult meal at a CS restaurant using the 2008 DDP? Which CS restaurants?

I know a lot has changed since the new DDP started.

These things change moment to moment. The CMs are trained not to let you order more Adult meals than you have Adults on your KTTW card. The CM's willingness and ability to enforce this rule will presumably wax and wane with management attention and the individual CM's mood.

So, even if someone could order extra adult meals at, say, Columbia Harbor today, that doesn't mean you'll be able to do so tomorrow. It doesn't even mean you could have done so today if a different CM took your order.

I will give it a try and report back in a few days. I am purposely planning to do lots of CS where either there's no kid's menu (i.e., Pizza Planet) or there's something my kid will like, but there a couple places I am going to give it a go (for example, Columbia Harbor House where I NEED my fix of the hummus/broccoli slaw sandwich but the kid's menu stinks ... ) If it doesn't work, I will buy him a meal OOP, of course.

You are exactly right!

Reporting back here won't even really help, all that it might do is give someone a possibly false impression of what is allowable at a given restaurant.

If it is allowed, and I don't doubt that at some places it is, it is outside of company policy.

The best a person can do is to try it where they are and hope for the best.

I will still report back to anyone interested. Feel free to PM me next week.

Eek - sorry to make it sound like you'd be bad for reporting back. Sorry if I hurt your feelings at all, that is NOT my intent.:flower3:

I was only trying to say or caution that your results may not be indicative of what others may experience and it'd be bad for anyone to expect to receive the same results you did.

For example - If you dine at:
Sunshine Seasons
Tangerine
Columbia Harbor House
Cosmic Ray's
Backlot Express
Flame Tree BBQ
Pizzasfari

You find that:
Sunshine Seasons - You Can Substitute
Tangerine - Can't
Columbia Harbor House - Can't
Cosmic Ray's - Can
Backlot Express - Can
Flame Tree BBQ - Can't
Pizzasfari - Can

Someone may misconstrue your experience to be the rule. They try at Pizzasafari and aren't allowed, they may over-react and not realize that it's not the rule.

I just think that any times we hear that Disney is letting people do things that aren't policy we need to realize that these are 'gifts' and not the norm so we shouldn't expect the same when we go.
