Does anyone know how wide the handicap/stroller gate is at the entrance to the parks?

I've recently added back packs to the sides of a wheelchair. When these backpacks are full the wheelchair is pretty wide.

Has anyone ever done a measurement for Disney park gates? Are they different at each park? Is there a standard minimum that these gates must be?

Help!

I think the gates are all 36 inches wide; I know that strollers wider than that are not permitted and I have only once seen a double that did not fit.

The standard in the ADA is that things must be wide enough for a "common wheelchair". Many access areas are 36 inches wide, but must be at least 32.

My chair is too wide to fit through the MK gates, so I go through the flood gates(the large ones in the middle). I've seen several strollers go that way too.

This may prove invaluable. Thanks for the response.

if your wheelchair is wider than 36 inches due to back packs, you are going to have a hard time getting through the parks. you may not fit in a lot of queues or even through door ways. CMs will so their best, but i don't think they will allow you to go another way when the line is mainstreamed due to a backpack (as opposed to the structure of the chair itself)... maybe someone else here has more info...

I think I'll be under 36" but I'll be more than 32". If I have to I'll eliminate one backpack on the side.

I just wanted a heads up; so, I know what I'm getting into with this extra load.

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) (49 CFR Parts 27, 37, and 38) defines a "common wheelchair" as a mobility aid belonging to any class of three or four-wheeled devices, usable indoors, designed for and used by individuals with mobility impairments, whether operated manually or powered. A "common wheelchair" does not exceed 30 inches in width and 48 inches in length measured two inches above the ground, and does not weigh more than 600 pounds when occupied.

If your wheelchair with the packs is wider than 30 inches, you may find many places it won't fit.

I've always felt Disney went beyond the regular standards; so, I'll hope it will all work out.
