We've had a management change at work---very nitpicky, micromanaging, etc. Yesterday, I got busted on my lunch hour-I was eating at my desk and DISing-that was always okay before-Our lunch hours are our own...But now I want to be able to "erase" the sites I've visited. There's nothing shady on there, but still. Now I DIS from home, but I will miss my relaxing lunch hours.

Click on internet options. Then, click on clear history!

Hope this helps!!

In IE, go to tools>internet options>clear history. That will clear it from a simple, standard look, but there are quite a few other places to find history. Only way to totally, irrecoverably to do it is destroy the hard drive.

If they are watching computer use, just a reminder that your employer can almost always see your e-mail messages directly off the server. They also have the right to read anything that you send out while at work. So, don't ever use company e-mail for anything you wouldn't want your boss to see. ;)

Sorry to hear you won't be able to DIS on your lunch hour. It's nice to be able to take a break.

Like Dan said, there are other ways they can find out where you have been. Some companies even install special software to track internet usage. I if I were you, I would take a good book to read during lunch and do my DISing from home just to be on the safe side :D

If you have a server at work there is no way to erase the history from the server which is recording where you go to during the day. If there is not, then I have always been told to, after you clear history, cookies, and files, go and defragment your harddrive. I don't know if this is a myth but I do it about once a week. I also always go into My Computer and search all the files there to ensure that I have removed all cookies. But really there is no way to erase your history while at work if you are in a company that has any size to it and an IS group.

As Dan said, there's virtually no way to completely erase history from your computer, and as others have said, your employers own all information on your computer and you legally have no right to privacy.

My DH has his own computer business. Recently they assisted a client by examining a computer and compiling data that included fraud, theft, and visiting "inappropriate internet sites." The employee is now in jail. I know that this doesn't directly apply to you, I just want you to be aware that if they really want to they can find whats been happening on your computer.

I know that all the history is there somewhere...and we are very small and don't have the setup that others do. What you guys gave me was very helpful actually. Because if she did check, it would be only to the extent of turning on my computer and looking at something in history. And, for personal emails, I only use my AOL account which I removed. I love to DIS at lunch...it's very relaxing and I'm quite bummed about it, actually.
