Does anyone know exactly why they are repairing BWV?

Just curious. I don't think I've read exactly what they are doing except something about piping/venting replacement. I would think that the BWV, being less than 10 years old, this is a little early???

They already had to repaint the entire exterior. That was paid for by either the contractor or DVC, not the members because it was defective workmanship. I wonder if this is also defective workmanship.

Have they said when they might be done? I have ressies for May at BWV standard view and what I have been reading the place it a mess.

From the member website:

Maintenance Alert: Disney's BoardWalk Resort
To ensure facilities are maintained to Disney quality standards, portions of Disney's BoardWalk Resort will be undergoing building maintenance, which will extend to limited areas of Disney's BoardWalk Villas. Engineering Services Cast Members will be replacing sections of the porte cochere roof during March and segments of the piping system through July 2005. Work on the piping system will take place in the Guest room building corridors and surrounding areas daily during the hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. No work is planned to take place in Guest rooms. Contact Member Services at 800-********† for more information

Was there early this week, and saw they are doing extensive replacement to the boardwalk itself. They were working in front of the bakery.

Thanks Debbie B.

That's what I had read before. The official line still seems a bit vague to me.
From reading about the paint, I would also agree that this may have something to do with poor workmanship. I am glad they are taking steps to fix/replace things, but with the paint, roof, piping, all replaced in less than ten years, it sounds like somebody pulled one or more over on the developers.

Peace

Do you mean that they are replacing/refinishing the actual boardwalk (i.e., the boards you walk on)? I remember thinking during our last trip in June that the boardwalk was looking awfully faded. No longer has that nice 'teak' color it had a few years ago. I imagine the Florida sun must be brutal on the wood.

Just returned from Disney on the 19th of November and at that time they were replacing all the boards on the boardwalk. They made quite a bit of progress during the time we were there. Looks great!

Not sure about the exterior work but the piping replacement is due to the installation of a type of plastic piping called QEST that is being replaced across the country as part of a class action suit. I don't know if BWV was experiencing piping failures but those that have can end up with some pretty extensive damage.

Last October there was a leaky pipe outside our room, so ancedotally there have been piping failures.

The Florida sun must really do a job on the boardwalk. I remember seeing it replaced when we were there in, let's see now, 2000 or 2001??? Can't remember the exact year now. But I do remember having to be careful where you walked because of the treatment being put on the planks.

Anybody hear the noise in the 2nd and 3rd floor halls described in the notice. We're thinking of a trip in May, and are trying to decide whether to risk a stay at BWV, or trying BCV.

I doubt you can use today's information to project the state of work 6 months from now. Heck, for all we know, BCV may be in the midst of some rehab by May!

Rest assured that the majority of the work is limited to daytime hours when people are typically in the parks. They won't be banging on the pipes at 2am. ;)

If you are frequently in your room in the middle of the day, I'd simply add a request to the ressie indicating that you want to be away from any ongoing rehab / construction work.
