Does anyone know David's Disney DVC Rental Site?

I'm thinking about renting out some of my DVC points, and I found David's Disney DVC Rental Site. He does all of the legwork in renting out your points, but the catch is, you have to make him an associate on your DVC membership. It looks legit, just looking to find out if any of you have used him.

No way I would make anyone an associate on my membership.

Not gonna' happen.

:scared:

I didn't even add my mother as an associate member-it's just not a good idea to add a stranger.

Just so you know, the one and only fraud situation I know about happened just like that except with a relative.

The DVC owner put her niece on her account as an associate -- apparently so the problematic niece could rent DVC to raise some money for whatever. The niece then defrauded several DIS members out of several thousand dollars. The aunt was finally "encouraged" to make one of the victims whole, but the others lost their money.

I certainly would never put myself in that situation.

If this looks legit to you, you need to be REAL REAL careful with any business ventures of any sort in the future. You could be walking around with "sucker" on your forehead and not realize it.

Now I'm feeling like an idiot. But his website has partnerships with Budget and Dollar rental cars, Priceline, he's paypal verified. When you google "dvc rental points", his website comes up the top 3-5 no matter how you word it. I guess I'm just validating now, but I still say it looks legit. It seemed to me less risky than renting my points to an unknown, possibly getting screwed. I was really only looking to find out if anyone had dealt with this website before. But again, thanks for all your input, I'm much more leary now.

Noreen, please don't feel that way and I'm very sorry if that was the impression we all gave you. We're just trying to look out for you.

You were smart enough to ask here and no one is saying that this person isn't legit. BUT, it is a VERY large risk to add anyone as an associate member to your membership as JimMIA pointed out.

If you need to rent out some points, you can do it yourself. There are many owners here who would be happy to answer any questions you might have. :)

None of those things mean 'legit'. It just means that he's gone to the trouble to have a professional-looking website. Pretty much anyone with a bank account can be Paypal verified. Anyone can link to Budget and Alamo's sites. There are things anyone can do to boost your presence on google. A teenager working out of his parents' basement could do the things you're describing.

It's important to recognize that a nice-looking website doesn't mean that there's a legitimate business behind it.

I took a look at his website. I honestly believe that he is saying that he will act as your partner in renting out the points for you that you can't use. I don't think he means to put him as an associate on your DVC contract. I believe that he used a very very poor choice of words when putting the sentence "let me act as your associate." I would call and ask him to verify what is involved before enlisting his services and would at no time list him as an associate on your DVC contract. He also states the following on his website - "It is important that you know, as your associate, I do not have any access to your personal or financial information." Again I believe that the word associate means partner in renting out your points for you not the DVC term associate (as we all know it). I hope this helps and would be interesting in knowing what everyone else thinks Although personally I am not renting nor have any plans to rent out my points (heck I borrow points and don't have any left over).

I actually thought of that, but how would he make a ressie without being an associate on your account?

He would have to have your member number and sufficient security info to make the ressie. He's saying he's going to make conference calls with the renters -- how's he going to do that? Have you call first and then bring him on the line? If you have to go through all of that, what's the point of having a middle-man?

No, he doesn't have access to "...your personal or financial information" -- just your DVC account!

 Aw, c'mon... That's not nice.

I remember those threads- that was a terrible reminder of the risks of renting points-
No way, never in a million years would I ever have anyone other than me and husband as members on my acct. however, I know Daddio from another board and he does have a good reputation and does a lot of points brokering, or whatever you want to call it. I still wouldn't let him be an associate, but if I needed to unload points I would probably trust him if I didn't want the hassel of dealing with renters.

Don't feel bad. After all, you did some due diligence on your part and started asking around on sites like this. I think what is being said is that the internet makes it easy to mask a lot of things about various businesses, and it is extra challenging to find one to trust that you can only know via the internet.

You should feel good about coming to places like this site and getting opinions and options. Being an educated consumer on the internet is hard work, but can pay off big.

By the way, I have no opinion on the validity or trustworthiness of the company being described. This has nothing to do with that...it's a bad idea to add almost anyone to your contract unless you want them to have control of your contract and access to your personal information.

Good luck! :)

I agree here after looking at his site.

All the other issues aside, I can speak to this one, since my provider just told me about that two days ago.

I have several sites I am either working on or hosting.

I was told that if a person registers his/her domain for a period longer than five years, they are "weighted" higher by search engines now. So, a person who has a 7-10 year domain ownership would come up higher on search engines than someone who purchased for only a year or two.

That is one of the "perks" they are giving to those who register domains.

It doesn't mean anything about the authenticity of a site. It may merely correlate with the length of the registration.

I thought that was pretty interesting.
