Does anyone honest to goodness tithe?

I was just patting myself on the back for a scholarship we're setting up for our catholic church's school -- we get to go to the graduation and see the person get it and everything -- cool! (not exactly giving just for giving's sake though - because I'll enjoy watching it!)

We try to be generous, but we by no means give 10% of our income to the church! I don't know if I'm even supposed to as a Catholic.

Could you really trust your church to use the money wisely?

No, we don't. Our church as the "Five to Thrive" program, which is based on FIVE percent. (And it is 5% after taxes, college savings, etc.)

Oh I'd never heard of that - what church is that?

We had been giving 10% for a while but fell out of the habit. Been meaning to get back into it, but it's hard.

Our parish asks for 5% in the collection, and 5% throughout the year for various other things like food pantry donations and clothing drives. There are a good number of parishioners that do it.

I can't speak for anyone but my own family, but no, we don't. We're generous to our parish, but we don't give 10%. :)

Yup! We tithe and we trust our church to use it wisely. Of course, no expenses of any kind are paid from the church without congregation approval, either by majority vote in a town meeting type of way or by elected boards who cautiously use the funds of the church.

Our church is Congregational (common in New England...fairly mainstream protestant) and the 5 to Thrive program is not necessarily for all Congregational churches. It is just a program that my specific church chose to endorse.

We don't call it tithing in our church, but we generally do give 10% + per year to the church and to other good works...some years we do better than others

At one time, I found that I was overtithing (close to 25%). yes, 25%.

we don't give 10% either, but our church just signed up w/ "parish pays" you sign up on-line and they take it right from your checking account, then they mail you receipts for when they pass the basket you don't have to look like a fool (even though no one in Church would EVER judge you):teeth:

10%, no. In the beginning of the year we fill out pledge cards saying how much we plan to give monthly. If you can actually give that amount, great, but there's no pressure.
There's tracts about tithing in the the church entrance, but its not really pushed.

I think I'm just too stubborn to give checks that add up to 10% all in the weekly basket. We give to Catholic Charities, Catholic Relief Fund, the parish itself, we're setting up the scholarship for the school, I've never kept track for how much I've spent on PSR -- who know what percent of our incomes that is, but i guess that doesn't all count as tithing. I like feeling more in control of where the money goes though.

We don't 'tithe'. We do give to our church. DH is on the session as well as the finance committee so he can see where the money is spent. Does he agree with everything, no, but he does try to be fair.

Based on the dollar amt we give each week and the time we volunteer we do much more than our share.

DH and I tithe 10% of our paycheck and we also give a little over that for offerings. We trust our church to use the money faithfully, and like an earlier poster- our church brings up any major purchases before the church for a vote.

honestly, no, but I wish I felt like we could. It would be $600/month and with a kid in college and other obligations I dont know how we could.
