Interesting. I've always been kind of "eh" about parades. Fireworks, on the other hand, I LOVE. I hope they keep 'Remember Dreams Come True' for a while longer (even though I have it on video.)

Hooray! Pottawattamie made the list of meth counties! Even though they list every single county in the state I still like to think we're the dominant county.

Just so you know it's really hard to offend people who aren't seeking to be offended. This area is crawling with meth using hillbillies. There's no doubt about it. I see them at Wal*Mart all the time.

(I apologize if you shop at Wal*Mart and think I'm talking about you. I'm not implying that all people who shop at Wal*Mart are on meth even though most of the people who shop at ours are.)

I'm going to try to bring this thread back on topic since anything but positive comments about where people live will be met with ferocious resistance.

Here are some good places to work at in Southern California that require no experience and involve very little responsibility.

1. In 'n' Out Burgers - Good pay and decent hours. The food's good too.
2. Trader Joe's - Relaxed atmosphere and good pay. Look out for the swankier parts of town. The customers can be a pain in the butt.
3. Misc. Hotels - There are usually some decent entry positions available at hotels all over the place. Pay decent, responsibility is low and with the exception of a few crabby customers every few hours a good work environmet.
4. Target - Easy work and good pay. Milk that discount.
5. Restaurants - Chili's, Friday's, etc. These are abundant and are popular among the party crowd. If you want to meet girls and go to parties this is job that will get you to both. Don't work at diner type restaurants though. See the movie "Waiting." That's exactly what it's like.

Those are just a few of the really good "no brainer" jobs you can do if you're looking for a job that doesn't require any real thought though you will need to conquer the whole making change thing.

I would like to apologize up front for referring to these as "no brainer" jobs. I'm not suggesting that you don't have a brain if you work at any of them. They're just your typical, run of the mill, entry level jobs that anybody can do with very little training. There are no real skills required. This is going to get me flamed I just know it.

you walk in, and you see a set of computers across from the door and a receptionist on the right. You approach her/him and she will give you a clipboard and you walk to a computer to fill in you data and do wahts you need to do on the paper. After your done, you fill in your availability and your work place desire and you finish your computer work. You walk back to the receptionist and they will determine if your availibility is okay to work. If so, they will tell you when you want your interview. You can get same day. you can wait or come back. When you come back, make sure your dress nicely. After that, you will watch a short film about what working at Disneyland is like. Then, you move back and take a computer test. You must pass this test. Its simple questions, act like your being nice and working here. (This can happen right after your application though)

Then you wait for the interview. You will be called in along with 2-4 people and she will pick one of you to answer the question so you may have time to think of a really good answer. 3-4 questions later, they will ask you to go out. Then call one by one in to tell if they will hire you or not and what you got hired in. This is where you can ask to be in a certain place. I applied to be a Disney Vacation Club rep, but was put into ODV. Asked if i had a choice, she told me ODV or custodial. NO WAY IM CLEANING FLOORS! If not, you walk out with nothing. If you got the job, they give you a packet of paper to fill out and to be brought in another day to finish the proccess.

Hey Spidey. I'm no expert in working at Disneyland, I've never done it. But I've had a lot of jobs, started working as soon as it was legal for me to do so, and got a job at Jack in the Box up in San Jose CA. Yeehaw.

Possibly the biggest thing you can do to NOT get a job is to talk about what jobs you will NOT do. Employers want flexibility, a happiness to be there, a joy in doing whatever needs to be done. They really don't want to hear that you won't clean toilets, even if they weren't going to offer you that job. (unless you're being offered a choice like Albort was, then it's fine to choose one over the other) I can't even think of a job where it would be a good idea to tell them what you would not do; especially since if you said that, then they said "well we were going to give you that job, but since you said 'no' then I guess it's goodbye", you would very likely feel differently!


I saw the post asking why you hate Nevada so much, but can't find where you said that...what's funny is that at 17 I ran screaming from MY home state, b/c I couldn't stand to be there one more millisecond. My home state was CA.

Honestly? I don't know. I just love California. The weather, the girls (oh, man, the girls!), the attractions, the scenery, just--I love it. I'd love to live there. (And the fact that I hate Nevada helps, too. )

It was on page 5, and it caught my attention because I live in NV. but have only been here for about 6 months, so I was curious as to where in NV he was and why he hates it.

I grew up in the SoCal area. First Mount Washington area, then Glendale and finally Burbank. I loved it! But it finally got too pricey for us. Not easy to raise 4 kids with one income in CA!!

It's a nice area, don't get me wrong. It's not that.

I hate the heat, the people, and there's nothing to do (for 18 or 21 and under).

It probably wasn't magical for her, but it was a CM cleaning the bathroom in a bug's land that made me very happy one day. DS had gotten drenched in the water play area (the one right across from the bathrooms) and I was prepared except for two glaring ways. No dry shoes, and nothing to dry DS off with. I was in the bathroom, trying to figure out how to dry him before putting his dry clothes on, and a CM appeared out of nowhere to tell me to use the special, plush, changing table pads...they were indeed plush and did the job much more gently and quickly than the paper towels I was eyeing would have done.

So even janitorial staff can make good things happen!

LOL, exactly how I felt about CA.

Got it. Funny, everyone I've "met" on the DIS that lives in the Vegas area, lives in the Henderson/Green Valley area. Must be a popular place!!

We live in the Peccole Ranch area, close to Summerlin.

So far the only things that get to me are when I watch the news. Too much crime! Most recently the shooting in Palo Verde. That hit too close to home as my older kids go to school near by.
Seems like someone's always getting shot.

I can see how there's not much to do for the younger crowd. Although they do offer some amazing discounts to locals for shows and stuff. That's been fun.

I do hate the freeways. Traffic's bad here. But it is in most large cities I suppose.

As for the heat, well, crank up the A/C. LOL Easy to say now, it's wonderful out! July will be a different story.

I guess I haven't really been here long enough to say for sure if we'll be sticking around long or not.

That seems to be the case with a lot of people I've talked to. They either love it or hate it. No in between.

Spidey, if you hate heat...make sure you get an apartment with AC. A lot of apartments in orange county either don't have AC or just have those window air units (that do barely anything unless the apartment is super tiny.)
