Here's another option so you can still move to Cali and still get your DL fix, but save money:

Move to Riverside County or San Bernardino County, where the rents are cheaper, and get a Disney annual pass. You can go on your days off work, and after a year or so of saving up some money, if you still want to work for DL, you will have some experience and you can go from there.

Do you ever hit up the nightlife in downtown Fullerton?

The singer from my old band bartends at the Continental. It's more crowded than Hell but the atmosphere is still pretty good and drinks are fairly priced. I like it a little more than 2J's which is still a little dumpy but Mario the owner is a good guy and has high hopes for it.

Fullerton was one of my old stomping grounds while I was still a cool Orange County rock guy.

Noooope... Gotta save money... Im usually with friends if i do go out and have fun... Other than that, i stay home. i dont drink because beer is just too much money... MEEEEEEH! Im pretty secluded. Im always in my apartment. so much to do in here...

I did the Inland Empire thing for a year and came to an interesting conclusion. When living in Orange County I was about 9 miles from work and it took about 10 minutes to get there. Rent was about $150/month more in Orange County so I was happy that I would be saving some money each month. My first commute from Riverside (my new city) was now about 35 miles and took a staggering 2 hours even with the toll road. If I skipped the toll road it took an extra 30 minutes. Admittedly I stayed in Orange County until traffic died down so I didn't have to sit in as much traffic. By about 7pm it would only take about 45 minutes to get home.

Here comes the math. I didn't believe it until I crunched the numbers.
The toll road was $4.75 for each way though I usually skipped the toll road coming home especially when it was congested. For the toll road alone I was spending $95 per month. Since I was also putting driving an extra 50 miles per day with the round trip I was burning a little more gas than I normally did. My truck got about 20 miles per gallon (I know! Not too shabby) so I was burning an extra 2.5 gallons of gas each day. Not bad for the most part but you never notice the little numbers until you add them up. I was burning an extra 50 gallons of gas each month. Gas was at about $2.10/gallon at the time (it seems so cheap now doesn't it) so I was spending an extra $105 to commute from my "cheaper" residence. If you're following along your calculator that $150 savings ended up costing me an extra $50/month and all I had to show for it was a 2 hour commute instead of 10 minutes. My figures don't even take into account driving to Orange County to visit my friends on the weekends.

I work in management at my company and budget is a big part of what I do. What looks good on paper doesn't always mean a lower bottom line. Sometimes it costs quite a bit to save money. I learned that the hard way. My 9 months in Riverside cost me an extra $450 in commuting costs.

It's always best to live close to where you work and take everything into consideration when making a decision on your living arrangements.

I recommend living in Orange County and put the $450 you'll save towards a Premium Annual Pass.

You said something about getting job at Von's right now and saving $$. There are Von's in socal. Look at working your way up at Von's now and then see if you can transfer to one in the LA area.

Also look into becoming apprentice, ie electrition, or plumber or one of the other unions after highschool. The money isn't bad and it would give you a career. Maybe you could apprentice and work Disney on the weekends and evenings??

Ah, I see what you mean.

Uh...working. I plan to work there for a while, save up some money, get some experience, then move on to a new job--one that I'll enjoy to stay at for years, and eventually retire.

All the while, I'll be working on my writing, band, and movie making.

What I'm afraid of is from what I hear $10 an hour will be the highest rate you can make. After all of your bills, I don't know if you'll have any money to save. IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE JUST TO LIVE!! I would love for you to go for it but please don't think this is going to be a money saving venture. You most likely will be pay check to pay check.
As I posted earlier- (all of these are projected at your half)
Rent- $700?
Utilities- $100
Gas- $300
Car Insurance $100
Food- $100
Cell phone - $50
Misc- $50
Total $1,400

At $10 an hour at 40 hours per week- $1,600
Taxes, Social Security, Medicare (Thanks Uncle Sam)- Deduct atleast $150

That leaves you with $1,450

$50 left over each month- maybe??? DATES COST $$$$$$$, cars break down, you might get sick and have to miss work, gas could go up to $6 a gallon by then.

Please go for your dream but with your eyes WIDE open.

Ontario Mills isn't that bad even though somebody pulled a knife on me once. Victoria Gardens is pretty nice and they have a Yard House but I still don't think it's worth it.

There is a very good reason people from Orange County call it the "Valley of the Dirt People."

They're trying to shake that image but it's still prevailent.

Ontario Mills (Ontario)....wouldn't and don't live there.

Rancho Cucamonga (Victoria Gardens)....very nice area and expensive...housing is equivalent to living in the OC. A one bedroom on Rancho is $1400 or so. I knew someone who was looking recently in that area.

You can't stereotype an entire 2 county multi-million person population any more than you can stereotype people by their ethnic background. I live in the 909 area code, have a graduate school degree, and have never heard the pop pop pop of gunfire in my neighborhood. My quality of life is a lot better than in some areas of OC for sure. I even have college funds for my kids. LOL.

I live in the 909 area code, have a graduate school degree, and have never heard the pop pop pop of gunfire in my neighborhood. My quality of life is a lot better than in some areas of OC for sure. I was joking about the fact that some parts of the 909 blow as do the snobby parts of Orange County. In fact Orange County is full of stuck up people. You may also notice I don't live in Orange County nor do I find it to be the mecca of awesomeness that everybody else does.

There are exceptions to every rule. My mother used to have a beautiful house in Riverside in a beatiful neighborhood filled with affluent people. That doesn't mean there aren't shabby parts of town and Klan rallies in Perris every Thursday night. There are. Ask a local cop.

You're clearly being defensive of the area in which you live and possibly tooting your own horn. I congratulate you on your many successes. That doesn't negate the facts that both Riverside and San Bernardino are the two highest meth producing counties of the entire United States. Yes. The entire United States.

And I do find it funny that you think it's rude when he makes negative remarks about the 909...but then you make comments about Orange County being snobby. Isn't that being just as rude?

Personally, I don't care for the 909. Or the 714. Or the 949. Or the 562. Just my personal preferences.

Quest, you are a funny guy, but sometimes your jokes just don't work. You may need to rethink what kind of funny you post at times, even if there are smilies. Now your movie jokes, those ARE funny!

As for being the highest meth producing counties- that is misleading. Not that meth isn't a problem in many places. However, with a combined population of over 4 million people, Riverside/San Bernardino counties are more populous than 24 states are. San Bernardino County is also the largest county in the US area-wise. Larger than Rhode Island. So, it's kind of apples and oranges. I just want to clarify so that the OP doesn't think the 909 is all scary "dirt people" meth lab land. I suspect there are meth users in every area of the country now.

Well, it really doesnt matter. Unless you can apply yourself higher, your just gonna get the entry levelled jobs that need people (ODV, Custodial, or Attractions). If you do go Full time, ODV would be the way since its a lot easier than other departments. If you do get into ODV, feel free to message me and ill show you around myself. Our trainers really really suck. :\ half the time, they are on their phones. Im still gunning for being a trainer though.

The only complaint i have for this place is that it gets too hot in the summer and the electrical bills for having the AC on is just too expensive... But its a nice place, local traffic isnt bad, theres lot to eat, lots to do. hey hey, our taxes are lower than LA!
