I am just sorting thrrough all of my younger sons clothes and wondering if its worth it to try and sell some of the name brand items on ebay or craigslist. I know I can sell the Hanna Andersson ones but what other brands do well on ebay? And do you list your items in lots or just as one item per auction? I am totaly new at selling on ebay but I think its worth it to try. I also wanted to ask if anyone knows the selling fees on ebay for selling say a $10 item. I just want to get a sense of what a listing might cost.

thanks, Jen.

I sell all the time...My son wears Gymboree and I sell huge lots of clothes and old coats from last year for good amounts!!! I do eBay, and last time I had about 35 lots of clothing and I made $1,100. My clothes are usually in great condition, but some worn regularly! LMK if u want some help with that!

I sell on ebay. I'd stay away from craigs.....

Anyway I do well with it. Brands that I sell are Hannahs, Carters, Oshkosh, Gap, polo, old navy.....

The store brands like kohls or walmart or target I give away to friends or neighbors.

What helps me is on the really pricey items ( like hanna & polo ) I'll do one by one. but the carters or oshkosh or old navy and sometimes gap I will do lots of 2 or 3. I sell A LOT of carters PJ's in lots of 2 and 3. I use my iphone with the ebay app & it is SO EASY to do the pic & list.....

Good luck! Oh the reason I say stay away from craigs is that you will get pennies on the $$ for your clothes.....You can make more listing each item on ebay, and I also do shipping at a minimum ( usually $3.50 or $4 ) and will combine for $1 each addl. item......

I only sell things like sports stuff (jerseys, jackets) on ebay. The rest I sell at a local consignment sale that takes place twice a year. I do really well with that and it takes a lot less time/effort. I just price it all, drop it off at the sale, and they send me a check 2 weeks later. Prices are comparable to what I would get on ebay and I don't have to mess with shipping. :cool1:

I have been selling DDs clothes since she was born :goodvibes If you have brand name items in great condition I would do them individually. If you have a bunch of no-name clothes or things that are in "play" condition (wash-wear, faint stains etc) I would lot them and start them at .99
Many ppl are looking for cheap, cute play clothes their kids can run around in. Even no-name or not super great brands in great condition can do well if it is a cute item or outfit.
Try to sell a season ahead, for example right now I am listing DD's Winter clothes. I am holding her heavier coats, ski stuff etc until we get back from DLR ina couple of weeks. Holiday stuff - new items, toys, anything I think would be a good gift - I start first week in Nov. Spring/Summer stuff I start listing in Jan/Feb. Back to school stuff gets put up after 4th of July.

For figuring out listing fees I use this site

I have sold on ebay and a private Gymboree board for years. it is really hard to make any money these days. People seem to be looking for the newest hard to find items, and they want them in like new conditon and for free. :)
The things you see selling for great prices are usually "must have" items when they came out, and are being sold by moms who have their kids wear stuff only 1 or 2 times before selling.

For Gap stuff and Gymboree- you need to know the "lines" name and when in came out. Example- Treehouse Gap Fall 2007 Gymboree Spring 2011 Spring Social.

I just take my stuff to a consignment shop now. minus shipping cost, ebay fees, and hassles with people asking nick pickey questions( Can you measure the lenght of the shelves on this for me?)

I have an ebay account and a couple memberships to B/S/T boards similar to this one for gymboree, gap and hanna stuff. Feel free to PM me with questions. :)

I sell my son's clothes on ebay ALL the time! It's pretty much how I pay for our yearly Disney trip! The brands that do well for me is Gymboree, Gap, Janie and Jack, Nike, and Mini Boden. I've found my auctions do best when I list A BUNCH at one time. People are more likely to bid when you have a bunch, because they can combine the shipping fees!

So I usually list 2X a year... I'll list all of his fall/winter in July and list all of his spring/summer in January/February. I usually have about 75-100 auctions that I list at once and I offer combined shipping discounts. I can EASILY make 1,500 twice a year doing this. I usually list in sets, like one shirt and matching shorts.

I just plan to pay about 9-10% in fees with ebay and paypals fees. I still make way more than I would make at a garage sale even after paying the fees.

I've sold baby/toddler clothes that my DD grew out of on Craigslist. I did them as a "lot"...putting say all 2T stuff together & listing XX pair shorts, XX pair pants, XX short sleeve shirts...etc. I also did this with my maternity clothes.

I sell my DD's clothes at a local consignment sale called Just Between Friends. I made about $500 in the last two sales :thumbsup2. I did have a LOT of stuff, though.

Can you share any pricing tips for this type of consignment sale? I've been thinking about doing one near me, but I've never been to one, and I honestly have no idea how to set prices. The FAQ for the sale I'm looking at isn't very helpful in that regard.

I don't sell clothes on those sites anymore. I use a consignment sale twice a year. Just between friends. I load the information into the website, print the tag, drop it off and wait 4 days. What doesn't sell, I take to my church as a donation. It's easier than messing with shipping.

I stay away from e-bay (to me it's more of a hassle with shipping etc) and do CL. In fact I think we're CLing our way to Disney - seriously I'm putting tons of stuff out there right now just clearing out things we're not using from the house. It's amazing what people will buy!

I like to shop at consignment sales and have tried selling at them in the past but I always end up feeling 'ripped off' after they deduct the main fee (around here it's $7- $9 just to participate) and their % (which is usually around 1/3 of the price).

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I sell whatever sells on eBay, it's my part time job~

Shipping is not that much of a hassle. You can print the labels on the site or on usps.com, priority mail packaging is free, pack it up and you can have the mailman pick it up at your door.

I sell every Sunday except before big holidays. This is my favorite time of year, the fourth quarter is when people really SPEND!

I recommend that you do an eBay search of completed items. Note the brands, the condition, and see what they've sold for. It'll give you a good idea as to it's even worth it to sell.

I usually price regular clothes at about what the local resale shops ask for clothes. About $3 for tops and $5-$6 for bottoms. If it's a good brand, I'll ask for more. The Just Between Friends sale allows you to choose to sell at a discount (first 25% off, then 50% off) or keep your stuff at full price. I have started to price things higher and mark them OK for the discount. I sell most of my things before the discounts kick in. The JBF people keep $10 plus 30% if when I volunteer for at least 4-hours. They keep 35% if I don't.

I tried to sell some brand new stuff on eBay WITH tags back in August. It was a great lot of nice brands (Guess, etc) with a retail value of $420. It took me HOURS to put the auction up It sold for about $75 with shipping and I had to pay a boatload of fees on that amount plus another $10 to ship it. I screwed myself but someone got a really great deal. If I were to do it again, I think I would put up items one-by-one as someone else suggested. I still think I would manage to get screwed .

I used to be an avid ebayseller of my kids outgrown Gymboree and other name brands between 2000 - 2005. The glory days was when I could get $80 for a gymboree swing top, a pair of matching leggings, and matchng socks! I'd sell about 8-10 outfits a week and make $500.00 - $600 each week!

I don't even bother anymore. My kids have long outgrown gymboree and I resorted to unloading the last several bins at garage sales and giving it away. The ebay and paypal fees got to be ridiculous. Clothing just took too much time. I had to hang-dry everything all the time in order to get maximum resale. When it came time to sell things, I had to iron the clothes, find the matching pieces, take photos & crop them, etc... My time was worth more than the $5 I got from ebay.

For those who weren't selling on ebay back in the early years, it may all seem pretty good. But for those of us who can compare to the good ol' days, ebay is not worth it for low-cost items like clothing.

I've also tried selling on Craig's list. I do great with most items, but clothes are harder. Everyone wants garage sale prices and I'm not comfortable with strangers coming in my home to shop for clothes. Too many no-shows, also.

Just wanted to share with you all a little giggle moment. On the main Disboads page, you know how it lists a summary of the threads on the right? This one only said "Does anyone here sell kids...":rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I use a Trading Assistant to sell my DD's clothes on ebay. My fall/winter auctions ended a little over a week ago and they ended at over $2,800. I did have over 125 auctions and it included Gymboree, Janie and Jack, Hanna Andersson, Gap, Land's End, Mini Boden, Columbia, and more. After paying all the fees and the Trading Assistant getting her portion I will have gotten between $1,800 and $1,900. Works for me to not have to deal with selling it on my own.

I have sold alot of my daughters clothes and will continue to do so. I figure out what the minimum I would take for something and do the starting bid price at that. Some items I start at .99 if I'm not really worried about the final selling price. Figure out what the shipping will cost so you charge enough for that. Some things I end up getting what I paid for new on sale. Gymboree, Gap and designer items do the best. I made around $900 in the last couple of months selling my DDs clothes from the last couple of falls and winters. Good luck!

I'm new to ebay selling. What is the best way to figure out how much shipping will be?

TIA!!!
