I'd love to upgrade my blackberry to a droid phone and am happy with my Sprint service. Does Sprint's droid phone have a slide out keyboard. I LOVE that feature on DH's verizon droid. On Sprint's website I can't tell, so I suspect it does not :confused3

I have the Epic 4G and it has the slide out keyboard. Honestly, I hardly ever use it since the phone has swype technology.
I just bought my son the LG android....it was the only one without an premium plan upgrade, and he's VERY happy with it.

If you're referring to the HTC EVO, no, it doesn't have a pullout keyboard. It's all touch screen. I have it, and it is one amazing phone.

Is the epic 4G a droid phone (not that I really know what that means exactly ;))? I really do want a keyboard. I'm not big on the swype stuff....having a really hard time with that feature on my nook :(. Maybe it just takes getting used to.

LOL. Just went to sprint's website and low and behold, coming January 9th is HTC EVO Shift 4G w/a slide out keyboard. Might have to go check that out.

I have the Evo 4G and really like it. I too used to have the Blackberry with a keyboard, so it took me a while to get used to the touch screen, but I am fine with it now. Although I will admit that on my 1 year anniversary in June I will look at the Epic 4G and the new Evo with the keyboard.......

The Epic 4 G has and Android operating system and a slide out keyboard. As do some of the less expensive phones. I LOVE my HTC EVO! My daughter has the Samsung moment and you do not have to pay the extra $10 for 4G

As others have mentioned, both the Epic 4G and the brand-new HTC Evo Shift 4G have keyboards, and are both droid phones.

That said, I was fervently wishing for a phone with a keyboard (I had an Instinct, and found the touch screen horribly annoying). But when I needed an emergency replacement for a lost phone right before Christmas, I wasn't willing to part with the $250 for the Epic (and couldn't wait for the Shift).

After much consternation, I look the LG Optimus S. It's a 3G droid with a touch screen, and it was free with my contract extension. I LOVE it. The touch screen is sooo much easier to use than any other that I've tried. I'll still probably upgrade to a Shift or Epic next year (I'm Sprint Premier, so I can upgrade every year), especially if the 4G network expands by then.

That's the other consideration. The only Sprint droid phones currently available with keyboards are 4G. If you live in a 4G area, that's great. If you don't, then you'll be stuck paying an extra 10 bucks a month for something you can't use. Just something else to think about.

If I were you, I'd go to a store and play with the Optimus. See what you think. It's way less money and a really great phone.

Great tips. Thanks.

Not true.

The Samsung Transform and the Samsung Intercept are 3G, Android and have keyboards. (Just did the Christmas phone shopping, so this is fresh in my mind)

DH and DS (20) have Evos
DS (14) and myself have Epics - LOVE them.
DD (23) has a Samsung Moment. HATE, HATE the keyboard on that thing. It lags terribly. She will be getting the Epic or Evo when she is ready to upgrade. She has Down syndrome, so a keyboard is better for her. She covets my Epic and will text her friends on that if I am not using my phone.

You're absolutely correct. I forgot all about those. They got terrible reviews online, so I crossed them off the list and obviously put them out of my mind too :lmao: No offense to anyone who uses one, I just went from reviews and didn't try them out myself.

Don't be afraid of a touch only phone, if you have been use to a keyboard. I have always had keyboard phones and BB's. Still do use a BB Tour (keyboard) for business. For personal and all my phone use, I now use an HTC Desire (Android). It is touch only. I had my apprehensions, but with a 30 day return, thought I would give it a try. After 2 weeks use, I was totally sold on touch. Even when I go to use my BB, I find myself starting to touch the screen, then realize I need to use the keypad. The Spr9int EVO is an HTC also. An HTC touch is stunning, It does not use Swype. Give it a try, for 2 weeks.

Just to be clear, Droid is a brand name of Verizon. It is not possible to have a Droid phone on Sprint.

Android is the operating system that Droid phones use. AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint all have Android based phones. Only select phones using Android on Verizon are branded as "Droid".

One of the reasons we went strictly with Evos and Epics.:lmao: Of course, Denver is up and running with 4G and they are building another tower just a couple of miles from us, so made sense for us all to be on 4G. (We also get a substantial discount through DH work, so it helps.)

Unfortunately, DD got her Moment last Christmas, so although we are platinum, we can't upgrade all 5 phones every year - only 2. Poor thing, she has to wait another year for her Epic (or the EVO with the keyboard.)

Although, she may get my Epic and I will upgrade to the EVO with keyboard. :rolleyes1

Did not know, I'm not real tech savvy. Thanks for that clarification :)

Defineately agree with you on the EVO I wanted an iphone so bad...but didn't want to leave Sprint, I have been delighted with the EVO and now I really don't care to have an Iphone....lol

I have the Epic 4g and I love it. I use Swype alot, but for longer texts/emails I love the fact that I have the keyboard. I played with DH's EVO before getting the Epic, and I just cannot type on the touchscreen keyboard at all.

OP here. I went to the Sprint store and played with phones and I will be going with the EVO shift on Feb 1 when my upgrade goes into effect. Can't WAIT to get rid of the blackberry!

on the Moment, to be fair, it is an 'older' phone that was released with the version 1.5 O/S (which might be part of the problem if your phone hasn't been upgraded to 2.1). Also, if you are using the stock email app and regularly check/delete email from your phone, those "deleted" emails don't actually get removed, and just pile up in the memory (which makes things extremely slow/laggy). A better option there would be to clear/disable the stock email app, and go with something like "K9 email" (a free app, basically an improved version of the stock app), which allows you to empty the trash folder and keep it from filling up your memory space.

best suggestion I would give is to just go to a local store (sprint store, best buy, etc) and see the different options in person. While a phone may get good reviews online, it might not be what you really want once you actually see/hold it (too bulky/keyboard too small/etc). Once you find a couple that fit the bill, re-check reviews to see which one suits you best.
