I was diagnosed almost 1 year ago with this disease. I have been very unhappy with my specialist and need to find a new one. I have been sick for the last two weeks and think I may be having a flare-up, but the gastro dr has not seen me and feels it is just a viral infection. I would love to meet others that are more familiar with this disease and can share useful info with me. Thanks! If by chance anyone is from the Pittsburgh, PA area and can recommend a specialist that would be great.

Hi,
I am borderline UC/Crohn's. I was diagnosed 10 years ago. My biopsy from Colonoscopy came back UC both times, but about 5 years ago I was have symptoms of Crohn's. My doctor decided to try me on Remicade, it's been working great for me! I am very comfortable with my Dr. and he knows when I call it's when I really don't feel good, he can tell by my voice. Sounds like you need to seriously start looking for another doctor if you are not comfortable with the answers he's giving you, ESPECIALLY if you don't feel good. Flare-ups can't get out of hand quickly if they aren't addressed right away. Good luck!

Thanks Catherine! I had a colonoscopy last year and that is when they found the colitis. The biopsy showed colitis and I also had special blood work that was sent to CA to be checked. The company was called Promethius (sp). This bloodwork showe idf you had UC or Chrohn's, again it showed it was the U/C. I started on 6 asacol per day and then switched to 2 Lialda per day. I am going to continue looking for a new specialist. Thanks for your comments!

Sorry to hear you've been struggling with the UC and your doctor.

I was diagnosed with Crohns disease several years ago so I totally sympathize and understand what you're going through. I've been taking Pentasa for years now (8 pills per day ... total dosage is 1 gram) with pretty good results.

Although Asacol is a varient of Pentasa (Mesalamine) it didn't work very well for me at all. Have you and your specialist discussed changing your meds at all? This can be a very tricky condition to get under control since what works for one person oftentimes doesn't work for another.

I hope you get some relief soon.
