My SO has gout and he is in sooo much pain. I am not sure what medicine he takes from the doctor...but it has been about 5 days and he is still miserable. Any suggestions would be aprrecitated to help relieve the pain.
Yep, I was diagnosed with gout almost 5 years ago. The pain is friggin' unreal! I'm currently taking colchicine every day, though my Doc thinks I should try something new since I've started having more frequent flare ups.
Thanks for the responses. I can't believe all of the things that I have read and I feel for all of you that have it. I am just trying to fill him with blackberries and black cherry juice and hope it ads to the relief that his medicine is not giving. Even if it doesn't work, at least it is good for him
my mom and mil both get it. tell so to make sure he always tells any treating doctor about it-some meds cause a terrible flare up (happened to both mom and mil).
diet is realy important-and even 'a little cheat' can bring on a flare up (we still give mil a bad time about her 'one time transgression involving 2 hotdogs with the works'-she was in agony for weeks!
DH's started in his big toe in the middle of the night and was so painful he woke me up. What everyone said is exactly what the Dr. said: black cherry juice helped DH a lot, cut back on your proteins (red meat esp.). This helped him and he hasn't had a recurrance in several months. Good luck.
