We're thinking of buying the Ektorp couch at Ikea for $499. I really like the fact that it has a slip cover that comes off for washing.

However I wonder about the quality?? DD4 has an Ikea bed that has no problems, she's had it for 2 years.

I just wonder about the couches........90 pound dog plus DH, me and DD will be on and off it quite a bit.

We have an Ikea house....seriously.We have loved everything and everything has held up really well for us. Now that being said we have 2 small dogs and no kids. (the only thing we did have a problem with were the recalled outdoor candles...and now i see why they set the table on fire!)
We actually have 2 couches, one from lazy boy and was over 3000 and one from ikea. The Ikea one has held up much better.

You really do have an Ikea house if you have big items like furniture & little ones like outdoor candles! I saw this recall today. Actually last night I was watching Design Star on HGTV and they went shopping at Ikea.

I think we'll try this couch out - I haven't sat on it yet but it looks good in the catalog!

I have a large Ektorp couch, with white covers. It's survived the last five years well, including a couple of red wine accidents (not mine, of course.... ;) ). If the seat back cushions get a bit squashed then I just wash the covers, and give them a good fluffing. They wash well, including the slip cover, although I do need to repair a couple of the zips now.

We just bought the Ektorp sectional and I love it. It is very comfy and has held up well in our house. It is DH, DD6, DD2 and I along with 3 daycare kids oh and 2 dogs. It also cleans up well. My DD2 decided to use the back of the couch as her coloring book, Daddy wasn't paying enough attention to her. Needless to say the crayon came out in the wash along with every bit of dirt that makes it way to the couch.

We love Ikea as well and our house speaks for itself...Couch, bookcases, coffee tables, end tables, bedroom dressers, toy bins, kitchen pots and pans, baskets and lots of other things!

We have a Varnamo, which is nearly identical to the Ektorp -- I think the only difference is Ektorp has the "skirted" bottom. It has lasted for 8 years and a lot of abuse. We were just at Ikea last weekend looking at the couches, particularly these 2.

I just looked at couches at Ikea this week for our basement play area. Glad to hear they hold up well.

We have an Ektop corner couch. (At least I think it's Ektop - DW picked it out. I just nodded.)

It is so comfortable that DW falls asleep every night on it. She then wakes up and curses it. :rotfl:

Definitely a good buy.

Yay for this thread! We are in the couch buying market now. Several times we have been to IKEA and sat on the couches. They look great, but we have certainly wondered if they have held up. Thanks all for sharing your experiences!
