Does anyone have a speed bake button on their oven??

We bought our house in 2003 (not new), I'm embarrassed to say I've never used it. The people who had the house before us didn't leave the manual (is there such a thing for an oven???) and I have no clue. The house was built in 2001, so I'm assuming it's a fairly new oven.............

I've turned it on a few times and my oven made a whirring noise, then I got scared and turned it off.

from the description you just gave about the whirring noise, I would have to guess that your oven is also a convection oven and the whirring sound is the fan from that part of it..a convection oven cooks things faster than a normal oven, since it circulates the hot air around, so my guess would be the speed bake setting would refer to that

Holy cow. I don't even know what to do with such a thing. How would I know if it is a convection oven, and WTH do THEY do??
Honestly, I've very cooking challenged. Boxed brownies and maybe a chicken casserole or two is about all I do.

We have the Frigidaire with the speed bake. If I look hard enough, I could probably find the manual for you!

It is a convection button, essentially, and if you push it, it speeds up your baking. So, if something normally takes 30 min to bake, on speedbake it will take about 20 min. I use it all the time.

My new oven has a convection bake button and it makes a whirling noise. I bet that's what it is.

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but I can tell you that I was able to go online and find the manual for our oven that we did not buy (came with the house). You may want to try Frigidaire website. Good Luck!

We've got an "easy bake" button on ours. When we push it, the interior light bulb turns on (no other heat necessary) and we can bake little tiny cakes in it! Helpful for when you just want a LIGHT snack...

That's exactly what it is and it does cook things faster. Very handy feature.

I have a Kitchen Aid Architect series, the convection feature is wonderful! I use it almost exclusively. I highly recommend that you find a manual for your oven so you can take advantage of all the bells and whistles!
