What are the two types of zoom and how do you change between them?

I've heard one type is better than another, but I don't have a clue.

I have the DX6340 as well. The problem I have with them is that they're a little flimsy - not too big of a deal unless you're clumsy, but they do seem to suffer a bit from wear and tear if you're not careful, unlike a sturdier SLR camera or something like that. It usually takes pretty good pictures, though, so I've mostly been happy with it. The EasyShare software is a bit of a pain in the proverbial, though!

Pretty annoying, isn't it? ;)

Yes, especially when it's MY computer that gets screwed up because of it. ;)

I got the DX6490 for my birthday in July, and I love it! It's my first digital, but it's easy to transfer the pics to the computer. I don't have the dock or printer tho.

I am completely digital camera illiterate. I've been following a number of threads and am still in the dark. I hope to buy one though in the next six months.

Can you use the memory cards over and over?

Optical and digital. Optical is better because the lens actually moves, digital zoom is just that - digital zoom. It doesn't come out as clear. My camera (and most I believe) has both. When using the zoom, I usually stop right about the time that the digital zoom kicks in - they may be a little further away, but the quality is better.

It got to where even that wouldn't work for me. The Kodak software seems to get itself everywhere, and I went on a rampage one day trying to get rid of it all. Big mistake apparently, because after that it stopped transferring pictures all together. I have a new computer now, but I'm too afraid to install the software on it to see if it works. Hopefully I get the courage someday soon.

Yes, you can. All you need to do is delete the photos once you've downloaded them, and then you're right to go again with a blank memory card.

Thanks roger_ramjet!

If I don't download them on my computer but take them into say, Target, I get my memory card back empty and ready for more pictures?

The only caution there would be if the pics didn't turn out...if you've downloaded them on your computer, you still have a copy:)

But yes, that's what we're planning to do for our trip this year...we've got two cards, each day on our way back to the house, we'll stop at Walgreens, Walmart, etc, drop off the card, and pick up the one(and the cd) from the day before:)

We just got a Kodak4530 5.1mp with the dock:)

Love it!!

HTH!!
