My 10 yo DD dressed as Darth Vader last night. Last year she went as Stitch. She has never dressed in a "girl" costume. She just thinks that the boy characters are more interesting (which is mostly true). A few people commented on the fact that Darth Vader was a girl, but everyone was nice about it. DD doesn't seem to mind at all - she's very secure in who she is. I really admire her for that and I'd never want her to change. I'm just curious though if any of you have girls like her, or is she just one of a kind!

My oldest DD (9) and my youngest DD (4) have never dressed in "girl" costumes. They've been Buzz Lightyear, a bat, a Ninja, a pumpkin, a dinosaur, a baseball player, a vampire, and a pirate to name a few. My middle DD (7) is the ULTIMATE girly girl, and the complete polar opposite of her sisters. It's very interesting to see that they all turned out so differently. I always joke that my oldest is "the son I never had" but wouldn't wany any of them to change who they are.

DD Sarah makes a very convincing colonial lad. She parlayed that fact into her pirate (Sarah is the one on the left)

My DD was Stitch one year. My son was "Maggie" from Herbie Fully Loaded last night. ;)

Last night Hannah (6) was Jeff Gordon and Emily (5) was Dale Earnhardt, Jr. They can be (almost) whatever they want for Halloween.

Thanks for the responses! I'm glad to see that there are other girls (and boys) who wear what they want. I have to admit that the Darth Vader costume was pretty cool, and DD even had a light saber to go with it!

DD12 was Mickey Mouse; her 9 year old sister was Minnie.

My DD12 was the Grim Reaper.

Your post cracked me up. This past weekend my parents broke out some old Halloween pictures of me and my brother and some kids in my neighborhood. Not to age myself, but in the 1979 picture, my brother and the 2 neighbor boys were 2 hobos and a scarecrow, and I was Darth Vader. (yes, I'm a girl.) Needless to say, I think Darth Vader is a cool Halloween costume for a girl. Good for your daughter!! :flower:

I wore by brother's "Mandrake the Magician" costume one year. The teacher coudn't guess who was behind the mask, making me the last one guessed in the whole class.
