I bought a futon to replace the couch that harbored the treasures of my children. HOWEVER, the thing isn't as comfy as the one I had in a vacation cabin once. Are there different cushions? This one is thin, and the one that was in my cabin was thicker. Any suggestions?

Yes there are many different types and grades. Is there a way that you could add in more material to make it flufflier?

You could put plywood that fits the bottom (and side) of your futon when you're sitting/sleeping on it.

That way, you do'nt feel the metal bars underneath you.

The cushion has a zipper... any suggestions? I am not good at this sort of thing, heck, I wouldn't know what to fill it with.

We have a futon with a very thick cushion and it is uncomfortable. I can't wait until we get a sofa.

I don't have a futon anymore, but when I did, this helped.

Yeah. A friend of mine at school had plywood under his futon mattress and it was really reallly comfortable.

You could also go to Building 19 (or any other cheap cheap store) and get those foam pads that sell for a few bucks (kind of like egg crates for beds, but without the bumps...it's just a big foam mattress). You could put that thing under your futon to give it more padding.

Definitely do the plywood. It'll help 10 fold.

I love our futon. We did buy the best "mattress" that they had. We used it as a couch for 3 years and it's been in our office for another 2. I've slept on it tons and it's been fine. Ours is wooden so maybe that makes a difference.

If you can take the actual mattress out of the cover...maybe add some batting (isn't that what it's called?) or a thin piece of foam like one of those egg crate things you can get to put on mattresses.

We just bought a futon for the den because it can be put together in the room - the door/hall/door configuration wouldn't let us get a sofa bed through. The delivery guys tried every which way but it just wouldn't fit so we set the sofa bed back. We bought the thickest pad available. It's to be delivered in a few days - I hope it's comfy enough for tv watching and as a bed for occasional visitors.

We also have a futon sofa in our den. It converts into a not-so-comfortable bed for guests - so we put an air mattress on it for visitors. The place we bought it from had different quality futons available. If you get the cheapest one, it won't be too comfortable and with daily use you'll have to replace it in a couple of years - it starts thinning out in places. That's what happened with us. We replaced ours with the thickest one and it seems to be working out well.

My friend did a really cool thing with her Futon...she bought a mattress pad and a thick down featherbed...she would but the featherbed on then the mattress pad, then the sheets....Most comfortable bed I ever slept on....SWEAR!!! Felt like sleeping on a cloud!

<font color=navy>We got the spring mattress with our futon, and it is sooo comfy. My son liked it so much that he got one for his room as a regular bed.

Funny you should ask...we just bought one for my 8yodd's room. She turns 8 tomorrow actually. We are making her room more grown up.

We bought the Futon at Value City Furniture. It is a microfiber cushion. It is pretty thick.

Perhaps you can return it if you just got it and hate it?????
