Does anyone have a dog with allergies?

In response to your comment about there being no claritan for dogs...we had a dog that suffered from separataion anxiety, and our vet prescribed Prozac! And I'm not talking any kind of special animal prozac, it was prozac for humans! BF's mom went to a regular pharmacy and picked it up from there!

So ya never know, maybe your dog could just take claratin!

Seems like a better question would be if you have a dog with NO allergies!!
My 3 Daschunds all have similar paw, head, chin itching symptoms from time to time. Most dogs do NOT have food allergies--only 10% or so. Most Vets will automatically suggest a food change, since that is something easy to do and it MIGHT work.
But not for my 3--tried all sorts of food combinations.
Most likely culprit is something "in the air" or "on the grass".
Heck--"people" allergists have a difficult time helping people (like me) with allergies, so no wonder dogs are difficult to treat. I've
had some limited success with DERMCAPS in combination with Vitamin E. OTC Benedryl is only mildly effective--makes them drowzy, and takes their mind off itching briefly. But it dosen't work well on dogs, generally. I've read that TAVIST (but NOT Tavist-D) works a bit better, but the dose is difficult to manage as Tavist is a "concentrated" pill.
Unless you are quite lucky and it IS the food, like me you'll probably be dealing with this continually.

My older beagle has dust and pollen allergies. Just like me
No special diet for her, but we do have to be careful when she starts throwing up phlegm. We bought an air purifier and that seemed to help quite a bit.

Hair follicle infection is an infection of each individual hair follicle......She gets itchy, red rashes, some dandruff.....We take her to a doggie dermitolgist....and it has gotten alot better with the antibiotics and predinsone....
