We drove last year in Feb. We had no problems. I was a bit concerned about running into bad weather but we left 3 days before check in at WDW and I didn't care about the way home - oh well if we miss a day or two of work! That way, had we run into snow, it wouldn't be a major problem to change our intinerary and stay over somewhere an extra night.
We've left Ontario late January and returned early February....Ontario, Michigan and into Ohio - you takes your chances...have had everything from sunshine, snowstorm, rain, ice rain, and fog....just take your time and you should be ok...from Kentucky on, it's been great..rain now and then (and fog one evening in Kentucky) , but usually great driving.
BTW, 401 to I75, both times...best route in the winter...get Dave Hunter's book for sure if you go this way.
Just a note...could be a coincidence....could be the difference of a couple of weeks.....but the trip back has been uneventful as far as bad weather...only bad weather has been on the way there
Hi. We drove it last year. Left around 3 in the morning, in the middle of a snow storm. Yes we did hit bad weather, and got in trouble from inlaws who was waiting for us in Florida. But we just couldn't waite. We also gave ourselves a couple of extra driving days and just took our time. Did some good shopping too on the way down.
We were in the world Feb 5-19 this year. The drive down I75 was great. The only thing we are always on the lookout for is the fog in the mountains of Tennessee. The trip back was fine until Ohio and we hit a major snow storm. By the time we hit Windsor we were so grateful we had a big 4wd Suburban hauling our trailer, if not we would have been staying there for the night. Allow extra time for the unexpected in the event you hit bad weather or have a breakdown.
have done it 3 times in the last 4 years with young children and never had a problem.....We leave between 7-9pm and drive straight for 18hours to Cordele Georgia. That way we only have 6 hours left the last day to get to WDW
Doing it again this February with DSister and three children (13,8,6) We will be prepared with Gameboys, CD's and lots of books. Gravol is a must too!
We have tried the I95 drive because it is so pretty but the weather is usually worse.
We've done it many times going down in the middle of Feb, and only had one really bad snowstorm through Ohio and Kentucky. Went in 2003 in early Feb and coming home hit a terrible ice storm in Ohio. They just don't have the same number of sanders/salters on the road as we do here so it made the conditions much worse than what we would see here at home. If it's bad, just take your time, and remember that most of the drivers on the road don't know what they're doing 'cause they don't live in Ontario!
maryliz...that is soooo true about Ohio drivers vs. Ontario drivers...when we went through Ohio in 2004, it was right after an ice storm and the roads were like a sheet of ice...we just kept going straight at about 80 km/hour and didn't change lanes...and just looked at the pile of cars in the ditch (at least 30 altogether)...even watched one spin out in front of us...you just have to be patient!!!
Hi. Have diven probably35-40 times. With parents as Child, then with my family, now just wife and self. Touch wood we have never experienced anything serious but did get off road early because of snow on one occasion going, and for ice on one occasion coming home. Always go end of Jan or 1st of Feb and return end of Feb to Mid March. Used to go 1-75 from Detroit but now I-81-77-26-95 as we moved. Just use common sense and you should be fine.

We had the same thing in 03 in Dec all the bridges were a sheet of ice and there were cars going off the road all around us but we just kept on going. The biggest issue is they don't seem to drive to the conditions we watched an 18 wheeler and an suv go off the road on teh other side of 75.
