Does anyone ever use Taxis?

Everyone here seems to use private transportation companies. I was wondering if a taxi would be an option and what the cost would be?

The cost would be about the same, probably a little cheaper, except if you hit traffic, b/c the taxi has a meter, while the car service charges a flat fee.

There is a cabbie who occasionally posts here who says that any cabbie at MCO has the option to give you a flat fare if you ask for one, but IME I've never found a cabbie at ANY airport who would do that, except in cities where cab service is zoned.

Yes, I used a taxi to get from MCO to WDW a couple times before I tried a towncar company. Including tipping, the total cost wasn't much different. (About $43-45 each way, not counting tip. This was a few yrs. ago) But I'll probably always stick with a towncar service in the future when I don't rent a car. I prefer the flat rate, the driver meeting me by baggage claim, the help with my bags, the nice car, and the free grocery stop. :)

The free grocery stop makes the difference for us.

We figure that we save about $100.00 in water alone. $2.50/bottle, x 2 bottles per person/per day= $20.00/day just for drinking water vs $20-$25 for the week from the grocery.
