Please don't tar and feather me but...

I'm just wondering if the folks on these boards ever go anyplace else on vacation besides WDW?

We are going in July and I have been planning for a while now and include reading the boards as part of my planning, some of the folks on the board sound like they don't ever go anyplace else. We've been a few times before and don't get me wrong I love it, I guess I just don't want my kids to think the only vacation spot to go to is WDW. I just get the feeling that many people on the boards don't think they are on vacation unless they are in a theme park. There is so much more around the US to enjoy!

We started going to Disney with our boys when they were 3 and 6. They are now 14 and 17 and still love it, thank goodness! We have done 2 big national park adventures in between, that they loved just as much as the Disney trips! We put just as much planning into those trips, making sure everyone puts in their 2 cents. We also take our share of ocean vacations, Virginia Beach being our favorite. So yes, there definitely is more to enjoy than just Disney!:D

We take a 1 week vacation during the year to someplace other than WDW and use our 2 week vacation for WDW. This year our 1 week vacation is in San Antonio at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort and La Cantera Resort both in SA. We will be going to Sea World as well. We drive to WDW so on the way back home we stop at the beach for 3 nights to relax before going home. We have gone to Ft. Walton and Destin and in 2005 we will be going to Point Clear, Alabama to the "Marriott Grand Hotel Resort" on our way back to Texas. So we do try and incorporate a new place while including WDW :)

Absolutely! We enjoy traveling. We do Disney once or twice a year - since DD got past kindergarten, its been once in November. We also do a week during the summer elsewhere - recent years have taken us to Massachussets, Niagara Falls, DC and other places. This summer we're doing a 7-day Carnival cruise to Eastern Caribbean. We also do a lot of day trips and overnites or long weekends to closer destinations like NYC, Lancaster,PA, Hershey, Baltimore, Annapolis, Jersey shore, etc.

We love Disney but want to see other places too.

Lately we have been alternating Carnival cruise and Disney World approx every year or so.

Disneysteve - what ship are you taking? We did the Eastern Caribbean on the Carnival Triumph this past October and had a great time! There is a great cruising board I can recommend if your interested....just PM me!

In my book, Disney is a part of my life, not a vacation. We still have to have a vacation every year and Disney does not count. It was one of those things my husband knew when he married me - that we would be in Disney every 12-18 mo (more if I can swing it) but we still have to take a big vacation every year. Our family vacations were the best memories of my childhood (we never went to Disney - only got to go one time when I was 6-7 with my aunt). So it is very important to me that my kids have lots of vacation memories.

We are currently planning our trip to Canada in June as well as our trip to Disney in December. Each day in the car driving to school, my kids say "let's talk about Canada" or "Let's talk about Disney". It is great, since it keeps them involved in the planning.

Can I stick my nose in here?

We're from the UK and although we've been to Florida 3 times (4th coming up in July!) we've also been around Europe a fair bit. We've been to the Balearics ( Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza), Greece (Corfu, Thassos) and our favourite place is Turkey where last year we had a wonderful holiday at Patara on the Mediterranean coast.
Also had a few mini-breaks - went to DLP last January (very weird, Disney wearing thermal undies! It was SO cold!) and North Wales for my hubbies 50th birthday (no kids!!)
We would really love to do a road trip around the States one day.

I try to go every year, but sometimes I do not get to. No matter what I try to get another week somewhere else, I go to the beach, I have gone to Vegas, New Orleans, just where ever.

We're 1000 miles from WDW. I'm looking forward to our first trip as a family (I went as a child), but I don't anticipate taking ds again...maybe one other time. And we have family in FL! LOL! Too many other places we want to visit with him. We take 1-2 big vacations each year. Dh only gets 3 weeks off each year. I know the average Amercian gets less than 2 weeks off each year, so I do wonder how many folks on this board get so much vacation time. Lots of teachers, maybe?

We're sailing on Paradise. We wanted to enjoy smoke-free cruising one more time before they stopped that. I can't believe they are making it a smoking ship in September. Hopefully, Carnival or some other line will start another non-smoking ship. It was so wonderful to spend an entire week on Paradise before and never have to deal with people smoking. I'm not sure what we'll do cruise-wise after this. I'm trying to talk DW into trying another ship but we are both really anti-smoking and realize we'd be trapped on the ship for a week.

Travel, my favorite subject! :teeth: I am a travel agent so DH and I get to go on a lot of wonderful trips. This year we sailed on RCCL's Mariner of the Seas in February. It stoped in Labadee, Haiti, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Grand Caymen and Cozumel. We loved it! In September we are going to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic to a really nice all-inclusive resort Secrets. In October we head to WDW for 7 nights and the 3 night Disney cruise (Nassau and Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.)

DH gets 3 weeks of vacation and I can take as much as I want in the off season as long as my days are covered-I am the manager. We have been taking 3 weeks. Last year we went to WDW twice in March to AKL and August to the Marriot DD and Wilderness Lodge. In October we went to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. We love to see new places and meet the people from that area! We took an awesome tour to the Mayan ruines of Coba and a Mayan village last October. It was amazing standing 138 feet on top of the pyramid Nohoch Mul (big hill.)

We will go to San Diego and Disneyland for the 50th anniversary next August and we are not sure where else! I would like to do another RCCL Southern cruise and WDW in November combined with another Disney cruise!

I am also looking forward to our 10 year anniversary in 2006. We have been talking about Europe or Hawaii.

We love WDW but we also love seeing other destinations. I think travel is very important (not only for my job) but for people in general. :sunny:

We go to Florida every year primarily because my parents and my brother's family all live in the Orlando area - the ability to go to WDW as part of that is a huge side benefit. If I didn't have family there, I doubt we would go every year - every 3-4 years would probably be more like it. Not that I don't love Disney, but there are other places in the world I would like to see.

Aside from that, we do plenty of other things. We have a week planned in Vermont this summer, plus weekend trips to Cooperstown, NY, Newport, RI and North Conway, NH.

They are making the Paradise a smoking ship???

Me and my DH don't smoke either and on the 2 ships we have been on (Destiny and Truimph) the only place the smoke really bothered us was in the casino.
That is a shame. I haven't been on the cruise boards in awhile and didn't know that. Carnival will probably regret doing that. We are planning on going on another one Nov/Dec next year but right now I am focusing all of my attention on my up coming Disney trip.

ummmm...funny you should bring this up...

1 month ago, BF says "lets go to Jamaica!"

I say "heck yeah!"

Completely NOT intending to hint (no, really!) over the last month he has heard me talk about all the fun I've had in WDW.

This morning, BF says "well, we could put Jamaica off till spring, and go to WDW instead."

I say "well, only if YOU want to, honey!" He's never been, and says he'd like to take me, let me show him what all the fuss is about.

Slow at work today, so I called to check hotel rates, and have been researching all day!

It's not official, but I think we'll be in central FL this December and not on "da islands, mon!"

I really do want to see other places, and I'm sure we WILL go to Jamaica and other destinations. But believe it or not, 8 nights at the CR with 7 day PH, meals, airline, and transfers is less than 7 nights air/hotel/meals/transfers in Jamaica is. So I'm really saving money:teeth:

Well, that's what I keep telling myself...

Hey there disneyfreak43. It's good to hear you like Virginia Beach. We have lived here for 7 years. When we decided to leave NJ, it was either going to be Orlando or Virginia Beach. We decided to leave Orlando for vacations for now. We love living in Virginia Beach!

Anyway, this question cracks me up everytime. Just yesterday, I told someone I was going on vacation next week and she said, "Where are you going, Disney World again?" and I said YES. She said why don't you go somewhere else, like Hawaii? I said I live at the beach already.

I say to each his own!

We usually go to the Outer Banks, NC every other year, this year beach, next year Disney! Who knows the year after that, it technically will be beach year....

You mean there is somewhere to vacation besides DISNEY????? You must be joking!!!!!!!!!!!!:earseek:

I go everywhere - Las Vegas, Colorado, The Easthern Coast shores, Arizona. I've just visited WDW alot more times.

We go to Disney in cool weather and to the beach in hot weather. In fact, we talked about going to Disney next weekend but decided it's been too hot (I'm very heat/humidity sensitive) so we're going to the beach instead (where we can just jump into the cool water if it gets too hot!).
