were at a different time of the year? Why would they schedule this in June when you have the getting out of school crowds? The heat and humidity of June is also a downer.

I agree w/ you. I wish it were at a slower/cooler time of year too. I think Feb. or March would be perfect! Its cooler and it doesnt coincide with Halloween or Christmas parties.

Oh yeah, me too. The idea of standing in those long lines in June heat really turns me off of the whole thing.

Well if it were during the school year parents who don't want to take their kids out of school would almost be punished for making the right choice. June is hot but not too bad. I always think it's funny how much people complain about how hot Florida is. It really isn't that bad.

YES! We always say this.....we never go during the hot months but DH and DS want to go during SW weekends so bad :sad2: The first wkend in Feb would be nice!!! (our favorite time to go)

Summers in Orlando can be that bad. I've been there when it was almost 100 degrees in the morning. :scared1: Just too hot for us, especially when vacationing with four young children.

Not me. I'm glad they are in May and June so my family can go. DS usually gets out of school in mid May so sometimes we can hit two weekends.

I think they have them in May and June so more families can attend. Lots of people wouldn't pull kids out of school just for SWW (not judging, just saying). Late May and early June is better than July and August. May and June are hot but not miserable hot. Oddly enough, even if I was willing to pull DS out of school, I wouldn't attend if it were in January or February. I don't like being at WDW when it's cold.

Yep we did it once a couple years ago. Never again. We usually visit in September so we are used to the heat and humidity, but in September the crowds are non-existent.

To visit in June and have the heat and humidity plus the crowds. No thanks. Once was more than enough.

I completely agree. :thumbsup2

Late May/Early June is a great time of year for SWW. Not too hot, the rainy season hasn't kicked off too much yet and the crowds are bearable compared to later in the summer.

Also, those who want to take their kids out of school to avoid crowds can do so in late May (the weekend before Memorial Day weekend).

For those of us who CANNOT take our kids out of school, we can still take advantage of this fantastic event.

Other than SWW itself, the crowds at that time of year weren't that bad. We've been to WDW in mid-August before and the crowds were much heavier. The SWW days themselves would be bad regardless of what time of year they are held.

Holding it in September or February is impractical for many families with school age children who love Star Wars. Star Wars is geared toward tweens/teens and not the pre-K kids. I could see them having PlayHouse Disney weekends in September or February, but not Star Wars weekends.

We found the weather to be quite bearable and we are from a mild climate (Denver, CO).

Please leave SWW alone! It's worked for about 10 years now. We are looking forward to another visit to SWW next June after our 7-night Fantasy Cruise!

Really? Some kids can handle missing school. No, most kids can handle missing school.

DD could handle it. DS would probably struggle to catch up. But our school district is horrible about a kid missing any days for any reason. DD missed a week in 1st grade for us to go to WDW and they took 30% off her grade for missing, even though the principal reluctantly told us she could go.

I got a nasty letter from DS's school last year for missing too many days. He missed one day for a stomach bug, half a day after our Skye Terrier died, and had strep TWICE. We brought doctor's notes for the two instances of strep and still got a harshly-worded letter warning that we could face charges if he missed any more days. He had missed 4 1/2 days total. If kids are absent, the school district loses money, so they are completely unreasonable. Otherwise I would love to be able to go back to MNSSHP, but for now, we'll just have to settle for SWW which we really enjoy.

I have to respectfully disagree. Not all kids or parents find it convenient to miss school. When the kids were younger, it was no problem. Starting in 4th grade, my oldest asked us not to take him out anymore. Between honors and AP classes, football, track, swimming and other school events, we can only go when school is out. YMMV

Your assumption may work for your family, but not for ours or many others. I hope you didn't mean to come across as condescending as your post sounded.

For our family it works great because is coincides with DS's bday. :thumbsup2

As for the whole "missing school" debate, while some kids can miss school, don't forget the older ones have final exams that often coincide with those later SWW and simply cannot miss those.

Back on topic.

I think it started during these months to boost what was once a low attendance time, after Spring Break and before the busy summer time. These special events are not just to give SW fans a treat, show people pretty flowers or serve them food, they are to bring people into the parks.

They are extended into June to allow people who can only visit during the summer vacation season. Ski Lift operators, snow removal people, department store Santas, etc. :thumbsup2

September has Food & Wine which is for the older folks and locals and January and February would be too cold for a lot of people looking for a Florida vacation and I think even Disney realizes that they need a few months of slow time for refurbs.

We've been to SWW twice which wouldn't have happened if school was in session. Yes, it was hot but doable.

Yeah, I do. That's just too difficult a time for us to travel, between work, school, and baseball and every time I think maybe we can pull a trip together something gets in the way. If they started 2 weeks earlier OR ran 2 weeks later getting there would be so much easier!

As far as an event during the school year "punishing" parents for "making the right choice", SWW are entirely during the school year for us (just like every other special event Disney offers; the only one that overlaps any of our school breaks is Flower & Garden). That's one of the reasons the timing is so bad, because my 13yo Star Wars fan can't easily miss even a day or two during the end-of-year wrap-up and finals.

Im one that wishes it went later in June, maybe ending right before the 4th as some school on the west coast don't get out until mid June
