Does Anyone Else Think The Monorail Smells

I find the odour on the monorail smells like a barn. In the old days, when the monorails had the doors that needed to be shut by attendants (not the sliding doors), the monorail had a pleasant smell. The smell, to me anyway, is very unpleasant. I'm wondering if the smell is from the plastic seats.

AGREEEE!!!

I was just thinking this a few weeks ago when riding the monorail, and actually left myself a voice memo: "Monorail smells like a barn. Still. Why doesn't Disney fix this?"

Good to know that I'm not the only one noticing these things! :rotfl2:

Maybe it's just us Canadians who are affected...lol. But seriously, the wife hates taking the monorail due to the smell. We had to walk from the Contemporary to Magic Kingdom this past April just to avoid it. I guess we'll save money by avoiding the monorail resorts until it changes.

Haven't been in any barns lately (or Gorilla cages!) but I have raised 3 children and to me it smells of wet diapers:confused3

Probably the result of 15 years of faithful service together with an occasional carsick (or from Epcot an occasional intoxicated Food & Wine) guest.

When you shampoo a carpet, whatever soaked below the backing and/or into the padding does not get extracted completely although "steam" cleaning works best.

Nope, this Wisconsin girl thinks it smells like a barn, too. And I know what a barn smells like.

I agree that it has a unique smell. I'm not able to make a distinction of exactly what it is. I believe it may be a cross between the smell of a barn, with the trappings of manure mixed in for enhancement. Or it may be from all of us that perspire, and choose not to use "Arrid XX" (Just between us, Arrid XX does keep you dry). :rotfl2: It will not stop us from using the Monorail. After all, nothing welcomes you back to the "Happiest Place on Earth" like a ride on the Monorail.....With that familiar smell. :thumbsup2

I have to totally agree..... lots of sweaty people over the years......

Discussion this fall with DW:
:groom: there's that familiar barn smell again.
:bride: Yes, but its a Disney barn!

Omg too funny :rotfl2:

I really noticed this on my last trip in November and my friend said it smelled like a port a John :scared1: :rotfl:

It was really noticeable and gross too ~ but not enough to stop me from riding it...yet! :rotfl:

I've noticed that some smell and some don't. I think that it smells like cat pee. s At this point, I will make the observation, as a physician, that some of my patients smell like cat pee, too, just like the monorail. Specifically, I notice in particular some teens do when they have been just exercising or at sports practice, and don't have a chance to freshen up before their sports physical. Certain athletic shoes have that odor, too. So, I attribute it to just the smells of people exerting themselves in the hot Florida sun.

I think we can all agree, that it is time that Disney purchased new and updated monorails!

I don't think the odour is due to body odour. I'm at Disney World now and the temperature is cold. The monorails still stink. I think it's the plastic in the seats. The same odour has been in the cars for years.

They smell like DH and I after Biking 20 miles and sweating like crazy....lol! Awful smell, it's sweat that dries quickly!

Back in the early days of Disney the seats were carpet. I think they smell better now than they did back then.
Replace the monorails? I doubt they even make such things anymore.

Well, I may be alone, but the monorail odor is a welcome one to me. It means, quite simply, that I am 'home'. Yes, there is an odor. BUT...I really don't attribute it to sweaty people or bodily fluids...it's more likely the recirculated air....I would imagine there is something added to it as it's recirculated, which gives the cars that notorious odor. I mean, seriously, I can't imagine any other explanation for such consistency. I mean really..the odor would change when the temps changed..and it doesn't.

I have never noticed an off-putting smell. To me it smells like recycled air (like on a plane) mixed with pleather from the seats.

Unless the smell has changed, I thought it was sort of a plastic bandage type smell...not exactly off-putting but not exactly pleasant either.
