Seems the more and more posts I read, some of you guys are up at the crack of dawn to get to the parks........I guess I'm in the minority here, because we don't wake up until like 10, and don't get to the parks until 11 or so. I like this because we save $$$ on not eating breakfast by eating an early lunch----then we go to the parks until like 4 or so, then come back to the hotel to clean up for dinner. With this late start and afternoon break we are able to stay late in whichever park has the EMH that night.

Of course, we can take this leasurly approach since we stay for 10 days.....we've tried the commando style, and I felt like I was back at work with deadlines, time limits, maps, etc.

Is there ANYONE else like this?

we usually go for ten nights, but I have to say that I'm up at 6:45 every morning getting everyone ready for the parks. I can't help it. :cool1:

Here here, late sleeper here. I'm on vacation, and getting a full night's rest is a big part of a relaxing vacation for me.

I am not planning on setting an alarm or anything but I have a feeling we will wake relatively early. Hopefully not 6:45 though ;)!

We would love to try this - right now though our DS#2 requires an early afternoon nap regardless when he wakes up so in order to get value from our tix, we start early every monring (when we want to go to a Park or Water Park) at this time

Cheers

I sleep in. It's not a vacation to me if I have to wake up at 6.

I don't sleep in super late though. I am lucky that my DS is a late sleeper as well.

If my DH wants a few early mornings though, I will do it. He usually just lies to me about what time it is, and by the time I realize, I might as well just be awake.

We do! We do! No rush, no pressure, we get up when we do and go from there. Unfortunately, I don't function very well in the morning without my coffee and I like to take my time. I even take a nap sometimes in the afternoon while DH and DS hit the pool or arcade.

My sister and her husband and kids go all out, up at the crack of dawn and they go all day. Which is cool if it works for them, but we've been so many times we just take the day as it comes.

We did it both ways during our trip last week - got up early for a couple of days, slept in for others. If we got up and at it early, we took a mid-day break (something we have never done before because we've always been in commando mode) and that worked well. I have to say that the day we were at MK for rope drop, we got a lot done in the first 2 hours the park was open! Then the crowds started..... But I do appreciate sleeping in, and have to have some days like that on our trip or I'm a rag before we go home.

We did it both ways as well. It really depended on how many Kir Royales were consumed in France the night before :rolleyes1

But really, we like to laze about a bit then have breakfast in our room. By the time you take showers and get ready it's after 10.

I say, if you can do it...do it. It is your vacation after all!

I don't get up early on vacation.

My normal wake-up at home is about 7am. At WDW I usually sleep about an hour later, but I have been know to get up later, too.

On the weekends, at home, I normally get up at about 9-10, but when at WDW I sleep a little better and feel refreshed and ready to go at 8 or 8:30.

I naturally wake up early and I love the opening shows at the parks so I can't imagine not going to them but when my DH wants to sleep in we just plan to meet later in the day for a late breakfast or early lunch. I can't sleep past 8 at home when I have nothing to do so at Disney where getting to the parks early is a great advantage I can't imagine doing it myself but it is a vacation and I believe we should each do what is best for us.

We always go at our own pace...we wake up a little later (and avoid the huge lines @ the food courts), get to the parks a little later (and avoid the long lines @ the turnstiles), and we stay up a little later. We have to rush around so much in our daily activities at home that I look forward to a break from it when we are on vacation. The one exception is Animal Kingdom because we have discovered (the hard way!) that getting there late in the morning doesn't allow enough time to see and do everything, plus many of the animals are very inactive.

We get up late which is about 7:15. Normally were up at 6:15 so it is later. Since we showered the night before, we are dressed and ready to eat breakfast by 7:35. Eat and can be out the door by 7:50.

This of course means, we dont close the parks and our out by 1030.

My dd5 and I went this week last year and we slepted everyday, we did not get to ride very many rides in FL only its a small world, and teacups. We will be waking up early and getting to the parks early to take advantage of
EMH with a little help from :tink: and pixiedust:

My situation may be a bit different. I am a 50 year old woman on a solo vacation. For me the only way that I am going to set my alarm is those rare times that I arrange to meet someone for breakfast. Other than that, I let my body tell me when it is time to get up. Usually I get up around 8:00. I go get a full buffet breakfast near my resort, then get into a park around 11:00.
I am perfectly fine with this because I usually go in early December.

If I were to lose a lot of sleep at WDW, I would be an easy mark for a cold virus. That's one of the big reasons why I let my body tell me when I have had enough sleep.

The first day is normally the only one we get up early. Then each morning is a little later :teeth: & later. We also like to have a non park day on our 3rd day.

This is the reason why we make our vacations 2 weeks long. SO we can sleep late (what a vacation is all about). We take our time getting to the parks (around noon). We close the parks every night too. We are interested in getting in a few breakfasts on the upcoming vacation because we would love to have an American breakfast that I don't have to cook. Looks like we have no choice but to wake early to get those. That's ok. We can sleep in the other days.

Like Kae stated, the only day we are up early and, that is probably 8-8:30 not 6:30, is the first day. We are on vacation and basically go with the flow. I will also premise that statement with the fact that our family has been fortunate enough to go every year for the past 6 years or so, so we are no longer in commando mode. If your family are first time visitors and especially if you have young ones there is probably no such thing as sleeping in past sunrise. Our routine is get up when everyone feels rested, my DW does not function until she has a couple cups of Joe and the kids always seem to require donuts, danish etc. to get that sugar buzz going before hunting down choclate croissants in the parks.

Getting up at 6am just doesn't seem like a vacation to me but I understand how this happens.

Cheers,

Schuey

We had been getting up around 7 or so every morning. It had gotten to the point last October where our oldest(16) didn't even want to go anymore becasue we were making her get up so early and running all day.

Dh and I made a spontaneous quick trip down a few weeks ago and stayed in our timeshare instead of onsite. We had our 2yo with us and jsut decided to take it easy while there. We didn't wake up til 9 or later and took our time getting ready. We decided this would be the way it went from here on out. We've been to WDW enough that we've seen it all and it just doesn't pay to rush around. I am looking very forward to having a nice week long relaxing trip this time.

Geez, what type of jobs do some of you have that you can schedule 10 day to two week vacations? We're lucky to wiggle 4-5 day vacations, often tacked onto a weekend! Just like to know where I sign up for such jobs! :cool1:

We never get up at the crack of dawn on any vacation, or that violates the definition of "vacation" for us. I'm a slow mover in the mornings--I have my routine and if I don't stick to it I'm useless for the day. Wake up, get coffee, read newspaper (helps my brain engage), wash face brush teeth, get dressed, then wake up kids. Otherwise I'm hopping around trying to get dressed with half my brain awake. I can't change my routines on a vacation! I'm always amazed by people who literally are out the door ten seconds after the alarm rings--don't they even stop to pee? :rotfl2:

When I was a child my Dad's idea of a vacation was to get up as early as possible to squeeze the most out of a day. He used to say "we hit the road at 5 am!" Well, the only thing I hit at 5 am is the snooze alarm! This upcoming trip (less than a month now :cheer2: ) we are staying at the Sheraton Vistana Villages. We plan to get up about 8 am (2 hours later than our normal wake up time), let the kids swim while I make breakfast/lunch, clean up, then head for the parks about 11 am. There's plenty of time to see and do what we want from noon -7 pm, or 9 pm 2 nights at MK. We don't even try to see and do everything to get our money's worth. We own those tickets, they don't own us. Can't wait for our trip! :cloud9:
