I don't think the prices at WDW are ridiculous in this market...a bottle of water last summer at WDW was $1.25. MY kids do Irish Dance competitions. At one this year a bottle of water was $2.75. I'll take WDW prices any day!!

The last concert I went to (which was about a year and half ago), not only sold tickets at $45 each (and keep in mind it's only a 2-3 hour show), but t-shirts were $25, sweatshirts were $40, and a bottle of water, was $4.50. Disney is WAY more worth it and will probably be around much longer than the band I went to see :rotfl:

Just as Disney is the happiest place on earth it is also the most expensive vacation on earth
I would beg to differ about it being the most expensive on earth. Ever stay at the Grand Wailea in Hawaii? The cheapest room there is over $400 a night. At least Disney offers room below $100 if you hit a value season. Not that the Grand Wailea is the most expensive...I know there are places even more than that.

I'm sorry that you didn't think my little quip was cute or funny and that you chose to take it literally. I am very well aware that Disney is by no means the most expense vacation on earth.

Now that this year's vacation is almost here, I started scouting out places for my next vacation, including St. Louis/American Girl Place Chicago, Colonial Williamsburg/Washington D.C, San Antonio, Gulf Coast, Myrtle Beach, Cape Cod, Hershey Park, London, and a Disney Cruise. By the time I added in hotel rooms, food, and entertainment options for every day of the week, a moderate resort at Disney World was by far the most economical. A value would be even better (and that's paying for the dining plan).

Oh, and the Rolling Stones played here not too long ago. Tickets were $150. And I don't think you got a "Welcome Home" with that.

The way everyone was talking I thought the prices were going way up. My season pass went up 3 dollars. I think Disney is well worth the money if you have money to spend on a vacation. Everyones prices are going up and some places never improve. disne has to pay higher gas pices to. Me I have to pass the increase unto the consumer our tenants will just have to pay a little more for rent. Awwww just kidding:rolleyes1

Well being that nothing in your post indicated it was supposed to be "cute" or "funny"...I'm not sure how you were expecting anyone to read it. :confused3

Last spring DH and I decided the next vacation would be to the Florida Keys. We usually take one long or two shorts trips a year. We got a great price on a flight to Ft Lauderdale and started researching the Keys. Then Disney announced free dining. We had done it last year and loved it. Needless to say, we are making a detour and will be staying 5 nights at POP. With free dining and a 5 day ticket it will cost just $862. It was too cheap to pass up. We'll end our vacation with a few quiet days by the beach or a pool near Ft Lauderdale. DH says the Keys for sure next year. We'll see.
Anyway I believe that you can make WDW affordable or you can pay a fortune. Its up to the individual to be willing to make compromises. I'd love to be able to stay at the Poly but since I can't I'll stay where I can afford, even when that sometimes means off site.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I only scanned a few of the pages of this thread and I saw someone talking about DVC and the prices. Could someone please tell me if that $15000-$16000 that locks in room rates also includes park admission? I know that it does not include the dining. Thanks!

No, it doesn't include park admission.

Of course there's the spending money on groceries, the money to spend on a town car or renting a car so you can get to the grocery store...

True, DVC is not for everyone. Before I purchased, I did a LOT of math. Based on the way I vacation, my parents living an hour from WDW and my best friend also being an owner it will pay for itself in about 5-7 yrs. Considering I own it for 48 years, that works for me. This year I will be making 3 trips to WDW and one to HHI-I could NEVER have done that before DVC.

To answer the OP--
Nope, not really. The CM's smiles, sincerity, and enthusiasm; the feeling of safety around WDW; the clever theming of the attractions; the delicious food options; the clean and comfortable rooms; the convenient transportation; the amazing memories that last a lifetime; the comfort in knowing where everything is there and knowing my expectations will be met or exceeded--all are worth every penny.
What can I say? I'm a sucker for Disney. :cloud9:

I really find WDW to be reasonable in cost and a great value. We only go off season, stay in values, generally share meals (like dd and I will split a wrap for dinner (use our old hoppers (pre purchased 10 day plusses) and take a day or 2 off to swim and relax.

For our family of 5 it is about the same (or slightly less) as a week at the beach and a cheaper than other vacations we have taken or looked into taking the past few years (skiing, a week at a lake in the mountains, & a week in NYC)

Some things are high- like character meals... but as long as the basic needs (a room and park passes) are affordable I will keep going and keep feeling that it is $$$ well spent.

As most of you stated, it's not so much the admission to the parks and the accomadations that are very expensive, its the food in the parks that are. However, if you go to an other park in the country, the food is always inflated. Its just that you stay in Disney for a whole week compared to only 1 -2 days at the other places so you don't feel the expense as much. That's why Disney is so expensive. I do bring granola bars, breakfast bars, peanuts, fruit snacks, etc. Not eating "out" for breakfast (for 5 people) everyday does save us a lot of money. I'd rather spend it on lunches and dinners.

I agree that going to WDW is expensive and likely to become even more so over time. I can recall similar discussions after every price hike. But in the end, after a few rationalizations about the price of movies and concerts vs theme park admissions, we just deal and begin planning the next trip. And I suspect that's how it will turn out this time as well.

I haven't been do Disney in a while, but have a trip booked that cost me $1454.00 for my son and I, and includes airfare from Boston, 7 nights at the all star movies, 8 day park hopper plus park tickets, and magic express. I know the food and souvenirs will be expensive, but I think it will be worth every cent to see WDW through my little boys eyes. I'm thrilled to be going and very happy with the price. :)

:lmao: Yep, the prices are too high, but if you were the CEO, and you knew people would pay this much, how would you explain to your shareholders why you weren't charging enough? By going to WDW we do our good deed for the day by making whoever is in charge look good!

It appears to me that Disney is trying to push guest to purchasing a multi day pass. Why would someone just purchase a 1 day ticket? Maybe if you are passing through Orlando but majority of guest travel from all corners of the world. They are gonna purchase more than one day plus you can get a better deal buying a multi day ticket. And if you are Florida resident, you get even better deals on ticket prices.

All the recent price hike is doing to me is convincing me to skip the hopper option. We'll be in the parks for 6 days, so there's no reason we can't just plan to be in a single park each day. That will take less planning than figuring out our dining reservations and cut $40+ off each ticket price.
