It means I wear an underwire bra, and a TSA agent had to check to make sure it was really a bra that set off the metal detector instead of an explosive device. This happened twice in one day between international flights.

Below the waist included inside the waistband, and going up one inner thigh to my privates, and down the other inner thigh. So yeah, I call that getting groped.
So then groped, and not "groped"?

It happens with me every now and then with my bras. They just pat the backside of it. I believe my current bras are because they are more backsmoothing ones that have more fabric and thus create a different shape although it's still clear it's a bra. The underwire part has zero to do with setting it off so just wearing one won't do that.

The one and only time I have had any sort of touch around my waistband was the one and only time I wore a belt (which was allowed at my airport) years back. After that I just took off my belt even though I technically didn't have to. These days I wear leggings or jeggings so no belt.

Is there something you wore previously that may have set it off?
Nope. No belt. Also, some metal detectors are more sensitive than others. I had removed my watch, so the only metal that could've set off the detector was my bra. The below the waist was something the scanner thought it saw inside my pants. Nope, nothing there but my undies and my legs. This also happened several times.

Detectors aren't just about metal.

It can be the density of something, the shape of it. Things like dresses can increase the chance of a check because of the flowing nature of them. My bra has thick underwires (due to the size) and I have never received a pat down on the front of my bra through either the 360 body scanners or the metal detectors. I have however received pat downs in the back of it with the reason I mentioned and then previously because I was wearing a bra with the straps held in place with safety pins because like anyone who has worn a bra before sometimes you're doing DIY repairs lol.

I could see pants being density of sewn in pockets, thickness of fabric at the waistband, etc.

The difference is that literally nobody HAS to have an iPhone or chicken wings or an SUV. Commercial air flight is sometimes unavoidable (yes, you could choose to get fired or not rush to your dying mother's bedside, but choices like that aren't really choices, are they?) Pre-TSA, people in those situations could choose to go to a different airport if they didn't like the security contractor in one. Now, they're literally stuck.
Nope, wrong. Those what you said there are choices. I don't have to travel by air for my job, nor does the majority of the workforce. My job is a choice just as everyone's and it is a choice to do a job that requires it.

I live 6 miles from my mother. It just happens to be that way and not a choice I made, but it would be a choice to move away. It was when I moved out of the home and moved out to the country to be further way. It's just chance that life changed for me and I happen to be close again.

There is just not one single forceful reason you would have to go through TSA. I don't go through TSA thus I've never been groped by them.

Only on the dis could something so simple as going through TSA turn into such a big deal. If it causes so much anxiety just don’t fly or go to mental health counseling.
Well, given that I AM a mental health counselor, I'll take your dismissive attitude in the spirit in which it's intended: Giving up your freedom is fine with YOU, therefore it should be fine with everyone. You might want to get some therapy for that narcissistic tendency :)

Wrong diagnosis, believe me. And how unprofessional of you. I’m free to go through TSA and free not to fly. I don’t spend my time around people who are afraid to live. Do you have a drivers license? Maybe not. If so do you have any idea the ways the government can use that information? And how it can be shared. I do. You might be surprised if you don’t know.

There’s a percentage of people that will give up all freedoms in the name of safety. That’s become very apparent the last few years. I have always been against the patriot act and was against the TSA taking over airport security.

Honestly there’s not much you can do about it except not fly. I’ve been forced to do a lot of things I didn’t want to do just to make a living and have a normal life. I’ve pretty much giving up caring at this point.

We fly enough that our family went through the process to obtain TSA PreCheck numbers. That has made the process much easier, especially after a T1 diagnosis for a family member, who now wears 2 implanted medical devices, and carries a medical bag for travel.

She did have a HORRIBLE experience with TSA last year, when traveling for a school function; the adult organizing had NOT entered her TSA number, so she had to go through regular screening at OHare. Not only did they pull her out of line and full-body search her for over 40 minutes, but she was alone without an adult, and came within seconds of missing her flight and having to find her gate alone at OHare. Certainly the adults could have done better, but that seemed inexcusable to me. I would think TSA would have better training on things like insulin pumps?

The TSA battle was what 15-20 years ago? It's done. If you really want to fight government intrusion there's a lot going on today to fight for.
