I'm cleaning like a ....well, what cleans alot, fast?

My in-laws are coming to watch the kids while we go to ...where else? I am trying to get everything extra-clean. Spring cleaning clean. I would never do this for my parents. I would just say "sorry, 3 boys, soccer, DH out of town..sorry about the mess!" and do my normal cleaning. Leave some laundry in the basket.

I don't know if they'd care...but I feel like they would!

:laundy:
no smilies for vacuuming or cleaning bathrooms!

Nope, my in-laws are worse than my family regarding home cleanliness.

My wife, for some reason, gets spastic when my mother is visiting, and she's definitely not the best housecleaner in the world herself. My wife is finally learning though.

No, but maybe I should start! They live close by and are over at least once a week. If I cleaned better for them my house would always look good. LOL

I would go nuts if my inlaws came to my house! Luckily they live in florida have no plans to ever come to new york again! My mother in law is the kind that pulls her glasses down to the end of her nose and then inspects for dust. i am surprised she doesnt wear white gloves when she is doing it!

I make sure everything is clean. I dont think I go overboard but DH does. He thinks that way because I make him clean his mess up..

We do because MIL keeps her house absolutely spotless. As in white glove you can eat off the FLOOR clean.

If we didn't do extra cleaning before she came over, we'd never hear the end of how gross our house is (even though it's really not).

Heck yes. My MIL is insane. :sad2: My parents don't care what my house looks like.

Not here. I was always talked about because I keep my house clean. "She doesn't have enough to do or she wouldn't keep her house so clean" or "Its like a hospital"

I like my way better, theirs is a "Pig stall". :rotfl:

Yep, I do this whenever my parents or the IL's are coming over. I think it's because neither of them come over very often because neither one are anal about housekeeping.

Yes. My MIL is a saint and a martyr and everything she does is perfect. Scrubs every day, bakes from scratch, does laundry every day for just the 2 of them, and works full time. She never criticizes anyone for anything, but I can just tell she's noticing the condition of my house when she visits.

DH always says, "Why do you clean and stress so much before they get here? It's just my mom and dad."

Oh, if he only knew what it's like to have a MIL who acts like "real women don't have cleaning ladies." (I have a cleaning lady.)

Nope. My MIL died several years ago (and wasn't the greatest of housekeepers from what I've heard) My FIL is a huge packrat, and has kept everything he's ever gotten in the last 6 years. There are huge piles of stuff all over his house. So my house looks great next to his! :)

Honestly, both of our parents understand that there is not enough time to go to work, renovate our house, and make sure the apartment is spotless. Especially with 2 huge dogs that like mud and shed constantly.

Don't have to clean for MIL. She is actually one of my best friends. They live 5 hours away but come every couple of months for the kids stuff. Just normal cleaning. My mom on the other hand, I spent days. She is a clean freak and I was known as the slob growing up. My house is never messy, but it will never compare with hers. I always freak and it drives my husband crazy. Luckily they only come twice a year!

not just in-laws, anybody that comes to visit. we even get out the PAINT.
Dh is a cleanaholic and it worried 'sombody' might be mortified if the house is not 1,000% clean and sparkly. :sad2:

We pretty much keep a very clean house to begin with so it's usually not that big of a deal. I hate clutter and I really despise a dirty house so my wife and I have "trained" our kids to be diligent about picking up and everyone pretty much pitches in.

Yes, I do clean a lot more when my MIL is coming since her house is always spotless. We are not very close so usually that is only about once a year even though they live about an hour away.

iMy MIL is very neat, clean, organized and everything. I am not. I don't clean extra for her or anyone else, in fact she swoops in and starts cleaning my kitchen everytime she comes and loads my dishwasher. I wish she would not do this but I am not going to throw myself in front of the dishwasher. :rotfl:

I love the real women don't have housekeepers line that is funny. I guess I am not a real woman. I have someone to help keep my house clean and I don't work. :rolleyes1

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I just did this last month. DH surprised me with a cruise - In-laws had to stay here to watch our 3 so the 2 older ones could get off to school. I was in a panic so I C-L-E-A-N-E-D my house and it still didn't look like it would meet my MIL's standards so I paid $450 for The Maids to come out and clean it all over again . I told them to literally clean everything they could think of and they sure did (they even cleaned my plunger :lmao: :lmao: ) This place had never been so clean.

Our house is very clean, but cluttered! I don't go out of my way for MIL... I do for my parents though. My MIL is down to earth and real... my parents are too but I have this weird obsession that I am not (therefore my house) is not good enough. I have NO idea where this came from and I am working hard on it... My parents are the most giving, loving people... I don't know where my sense of inequality is from.

My MIL watches my kids 2 days a weeks and I used to be a spaz about cleaning the night before she came but then I was like "Ya know what? This is my life! I work full time, have 2 kids and a husband! If the house is messy, so be it!!" I stopped stressing out over it! My house isn't dirty, just a little cluttery at times! But that's just the way it is right now!!

Yes I do clean extra when the in-laws are coming. Not because their house is clean, cause it's not. But because she likes to find fault with me. :sad2: Thats why when they come in december they get to stay in a hotel. It helps save my sanity. :)
