Does anyone else avoid booking resorts themed like 'home'?

When we lived in Wisconsin we loved, just loved staying at Corando Springs. Especially in the winter. Just loved the southwest theming. We are now retired and living in an Active Adult community in ARIZONA. We fell in love with our community because ..... It looked so much like Coranado !! We will be staying at Beach Club on our upcoming trip so we can be by water. (And walk to Epcot) Will skip Corando now unless its a deal we cant pass up.

I live in the Pacific NW and I find myself repeatedly skipping over Wilderness Lodge, even when I can get it for a screaming deal, because it looks so much like resorts that I have within an hour or two from my house.
Same goes for the restaurants there. I've dined at Artist Point and while it was great I don't plan on going back simply because salmon and Tillamook cheddar are kind of old news to me.

Anyone else have resorts they've blacklisted for the same reason?

Pre-DVC, I wouldn't dream of staying at Coronado Springs. We live about 15 minutes from the Mexican border, and so CS reminds me of what things look like around here (only cleaner!). And when we lived near Cape Cod, in MA, I visited BC/YC and had no desire to stay there because at that time, it reminded me too much of home. What's funny is that now BCV is one of my favorite resorts, partly because we no longer live up there and BCV makes me nostalgic for the area I loved.

It’s how I felt before I stepped foot in there. And then I felt foolish for having thought to avoid it. It’s so pretty. And then we stayed there and it was lovely. Had a pretty little balcony and it reminded me of a trip to Bellingham when I was 19.

Like I said, if I were always staying at Salish lodge that might be one thing. But I’m not. :)
I had to look that one up. I hadn't heard of it. We are closer to Portland though so when we want to do a little get away we go to the Skamania Lodge, it's about 90 minutes away. It's so pretty up there and the restaurants in the hotel are really good. Plus you can get deals for like $130 a night, so even the best cash deals seem steep for such a similar experience.

We were in the Wildwood/Cape May, NJ area for a beach vacation several years back, and my kids noticed how much a restaurant there reminded them of the BCV's. So we fly to Florida to experience an area we can drive to in a couple hours. Disney is a much more relaxed experience with some of the beachy stuff we love. We have stayed at BCV and BWV on the past 3 trips and will do BWV again next year. In 2019, we plan on a split stay with the Poly, so we will be trying something new.

Wilderness lodge...live in upstate NY, I can look out my window and see plenty of pine trees! I want to see palm trees on vacation-

HR OKW - Living in FL, having grown up with Jimmy Buffett songs; the resort reminds me of the times I have been to Key West.
We have found something we like at every resort in short:
AKV - Great views and different food.
OKW - My 2nd home, most room.
BCV - Walk to EPCOT/MGM.
SSR - Walking to DS (DTD).
BLT - Monorail.
BWV - Like decor and ditto BCV.
BRV (VWL) - Woodlands feel, walk to FWC.
VB - Different feel than WDW resorts.
HH - Area history and golf courses.
PVB - Love the rain shower.

Grand Floridian rooms to us look like many an old fashioned hotel in UK. As a result people in UK I show the rooms to on YouTube are not that impressed.

Yeah. I live in Philly and my fiancee and I used to go to Atlantic City a lot for mini day trips to walk the boards and do their food and wine festival. I've been going to Cape May and Wildwood (also feature prominent boardwalks) every summer for 35 years. My fiancee's family has a summer house in West Wildwood. I have no interest in staying at the Boardwalk. It's like a fancier version of Wildwood Crest, honestly, and Philly is full of dueling piano bars and sports bars and breweries. It's way too much like home for me to ever want to stay there.

I can see that. We live on the gulf coast, so don't care for the beach themes. We bought at CCV, I guess because of reasons that ya'll are describing. We are looking into buying a BLT or PVB contract for location, just have't decided yet.

We live in the horse capital of the world, so the horse-racing theme of SSR is rather boring to us, as is the Victorian architecture. It looks like many of the apartment complexes in our city. I would still stay there for the location if we intended to spend a great deal of time at DS though.

This is funny because I booked Poly for our upcoming trip but I found myself looking into Boardwalk a bit. We live in South Jersey (I work in Philly though) and I love Cape May and LBI (both non boardwalk towns)...AC I like if we feel like gambling or walking to different bars on the boardwalk. I’m not sure how it would be staying at Disney’s Boardwalk...it seems to get great reviews and I think it would be cool to be able to walk to Epcot but I guess I could feel kind of like I was “home.”

I can't bring myself to book at the Beach Club as I've been told that it is supposed to be styled in the theme of Cape Cod, MA. Now I still doubt this statement, but if true, then I have no clue what version of the Cape the architect went to. I can't think of anyplace that looks remotely like the Beach club. I just don't want to walk in and find myself saying "Oh? So this is what home is supposed to look like." o_O I wouldn't have a problem with the BC otherwise.

I actually think Yacht Club is more Cape Cod-ish than Beach Club, but they both feel a little too New England to be vacation for me! :)

Nope, don’t have any theme around here. Right now it looks like frozen arandale here, so ANY resort sounds good right now.......

Agree! The Great Northwest is the most beautiful and bountiful place In the world so I get why people adore the resort ; D. Being the lucky ones who get to live it, We prefer to be transported elsewhere at WDW. We decided we’d do WL but only in the CC Cabins.

Yup. We avoid Wilderness Lodge and Copper Creek because we live in the PNW/Seattle and it looks just like home. I can go to the San Juans and rent a cabin. Go to Mt Rainier and stay at Paradise Lodge, etc. I like a completely different vibe and experience. I feel very lucky to live here. It's gorgeous. Surrounded by water and mountains, it never gets old. Deep forests are good for the soul.

We also don't eat salmon anywhere else. We get the best of the best here and don't want to be disappointed. We know we couldn't help but compare and don't want to be those whiney annoying people.

We live in MA and own at VWL, friends of ours stayed there recent and said they didn't like it because it made them feel like they were home. So I guess a lot of people do feel that way.
