Does anyone else admit to hating sushi?

We don't eat any seafood of any kind. Yes, there is veggie sushi, but that usually has avocado or something equally as yucky, so no sushi for us! :thumbsup2

That is one of the most ignorant statements I think I've read on DIS. Basically by you calling sushi not a real food, your discounting the diet of the whole Japanese culture for centuries.

I can remember having some pretty decent burgers in Japan... pizza, too! I don't know about "centuries," but they certainly had burgers (and pizza) almost half a century ago. I do remember seeing a lot of rice, noodles and even soups and steaks, but I do not remember seeing or even hearing about sushi. :confused3

I've been eating sushi since 1985, so it's one huge trend here! I will admit to not caring for those fried rolls--they're heavy, and just odd to me. I've seen some rolls with cream cheese in them, too, and find that beyond strange. While I don't like the Americanized fried or cheesy rolls, I love the Korean take on sushi. Hwe dup bap (vegies and fish scattered over rice, but with Korean pepper paste rather than wasabi) is different, but really good.

I really dislike cream cheese in my rolls! Yuck. No fried rolls either. Hwe dup bap sounds like something I would like! :)

Right...so sushi didn't really exist 50 years ago in Japan...doesn't matter that its origins are around 1800.

I absolutely love it but my husband hates it. He doesn't mind me eating it though.

If it was intended that I consume raw fish, I believe I would have been born with gills.
:fish::fish::fish:

Well, I acquired my sushi habit over 60 years ago in Japan. Lived there for 5 years and our nanny/housekeeper used to give it to me. Now I didn't get the sashimi habit until I grew up. But then I wasn't going to places that served burgers or pizza. She took me to real Japanese restaurants as well as noodle carts and to her family's home.

I see nothing good about raw fish. Ick. Ever see fresh cod with the worms crawling around in it? Good reason to: A) not eat raw seafood and B) not eat Cod!:scared1:

I do not like it, but it is a currently an 'in' food, so it is popular. Foods, like many things, come and go in mass popularity.

I respectfully disagree. I remember fifteen plus years ago taking the train into Chicago, hanging out at random museums and grabbing some sushi for dinner before the train back home. Granted, sushi wasn't nearly as easy to find as it is now, but it was around. To me, it's an ethnic cuisine that's gotten more exposure and I don't foresee it exiting the food scene anytime in the near future.

Now Crystal Pepsi? THAT came and went with mass popularity. Lol

nope...can't do it. I've tried a few times and it just doesn't sit right...i've had numerous types because everyone said "you just haven't had GOOD sushi..try this.."

but this is coming from a girl who doesn't like seafood of any kind-- basically if at one point in it's life it could be held underwater and didn't die, I won't eat it. I also don't like mayo, rare meat, game meats (and i'm a deer hunter, (huntress?) (i give my game to friends and family), olives or eggs..

Were you born with a tail?:rotfl: Or, when you eat meat because its cooked you lose the tail?

Yes, I was and an awesome one at that.

I don't eat raw fish for the same reason that I don't eat raw meat. It's...it's raw. The funny thing is that the same people that eat raw fish are the ones that are so diligent about using cooking thermometers to be sure that meat has been cooked to it's proper temperature to kill all the possible bacteria. I'm not sure how that is reconciled in one's mind.

A fish eating other fish gets it's food pretty fresh...it's still kicking and screaming on the way down, but sushi is handled by people that might have been picking their nose just moments before. Cook it...I'll eat it...otherwise I am just not interested.

I HATE sushi. I don't care how "in" it is. Bleck.

I don't eat fish to begin with but eating RAW fish wrapped in seaweed makes my stomach feel like taking a trip to visit the Porcelain King.
