I've been on the DIS since the late 90's and I don't ever recall this subject being talked about (although I'm sure it has been I just missed it).;)

People buying paper cups at the resorts and using them as refillable mugs. And since the paper cups are a generic WDW design, they could take them home and reuse them at another resort with nobody ever looking at them funny.;)

I know refillable mugs are THE hottest, flamiest (I think I just made up a word) debate on the DIS, but I really want to know - so please try to be nice.;)

BTW, I WASN'T thinking of doing this myself for real - just something that popped into my head while staying at, well, Pop.:rotfl:

I can't imagine anyone carrying around a paper cup and it staying
in good shape...

Me either - but you know there are some people that would work very hard to keep that paper cup in good condition - just to be cheap.;)

When I was at Pop last Oct., I saw a few people using the small clear plastic "water" cups for soft drinks, so I wouldn't be surprised if people kept their paper ones for a few refills. But maybe only at the resort food court and not actually around the parks. Usually those food courts are so chaotic, who will know if you are using an old cup?

They would never know, that's why I figured people must do it to some extent. Those paper cups are pretty sturdy - if I really wanted to, I could have saved mine for another trip - but I didn't.;)

Have you ever seen the movie Casino? Where they catch the guy cheating in the casino and take him downstairs and smash his hand with a hammer. All Im sayin' is, its in your best interest to buy the refillable mug. Thats all Im sayin! :rolleyes1

Yes, and if you're going out to the desert to dig a hole, you might as well dig two, because you never know if you're going to need it, and you don't want to be out there all night digging holes.;)

I will admit that I have used the foam cups from the room. I do follow the rules and buy the mugs fresh each time; however, sometimes I just want an extra cup of coffee in the morning while I wait for the bus, and I don't want to haul around the mug all day in the park. So...I take a paper cup. I do hold on to my mug receipt in case anyone cares, but no one seems to.
I would not do it if I didn't have a mug all bought and paid for.

Well if you just buy a soda, you can certainly refill it. But I think most people just keep it for that meal and toss it. I think it would get pretty gross to keep bringing it back.

Gross, yes - but once again, you know that SOMEBODY is doing it.;)

ITA. I did this most times when leaving for the parks in the am. Did not want to drag around an empty mug all day since my frozen coke would be gone before the bus arrived. I asked at the cash and they said no problem.

I also bought the re-fillable mugs as a souvenir. And if I go again, I will buy another for a souvenir.

And once I came back from the parks, went all the way up to my room to drop off all my stuff and went BACK to the food court, for my fill of frozen coke and realized i hadn't brought my mug. :rotfl: Real Blonde moment there. Musta been all that sun that day. :rolleyes1

So, yet again, I used a cup from the food court with permission of the CM at the cash register.

I can see this happening, the food courts are so busy. I think that the idea of getting a cup for your coffe is a great idea though, only if you have bought the mug. I hate carrying that mug around with my coffe in it. Next time, I'll take my recipt for my mug with me and see if I can get a paper cup for my coffe instead.

:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 I do the same thing :rolleyes1

We witnessed some customers being asked to leave the Beach Club Marketplace because they were using plastic (non WDW) cups at the drink station.

Actually they were asked to leave when they got mouthy with the CMs. The CMs were very nice about asking them not to use the regular plastic cups and pointed out that the drink station was only for those purchasing drinks or using a refillable mug.

The customers got really nasty with the CMs and in the process, it was discovered that they weren't even staying on Disney property! They had left EPCOT and walked to the BC just to get free drinks!

I guess they really overshot the entrance to Club Cool at EPCOT. I wonder if they were looking to try the Beverly???

It absolutely amazes me how people feel that it is okay to help themselves to beverages that they do not pay for. Would these same people take their McDonald's drinking cups and go to any McDonalds's for "free" refills? Do these people not realize that this is considered to be theft? After spending a couple of thousand dollars on a vacation, what the heck is another $20?:confused3

I hadn't thought about that, but yeah, are there actually McDonald's paper cup refillers?:confused3 :lmao:

Now THAT would be cheap. And those cups are flimsy compared to the sturdier ones at WDW.;)

I do something similar to this. In the morning, I get up very early for "mommy time", so I fill up my mug with coffee and the fill up a coffee cup for an extra cup. I go sit at the pool and drink my two cups. (with CM permission of course)

Mommy time is too important for me (and indirectly my family:lmao: ) for me to waste the time to walk back to the food court for a refill.

I never thought to do that on the way to the busses. Thanks for the tip.

You know, when ever I ask the CM's at the food courts if this is OK, I always get an OK, along with a "why would you even ask" look. I think we think this out way too much on the DIS. YMMV

Ad infinitum, the over-active Dis mug police are at it again!!

Just a reminder it is against DIS policy to call DIS members names.

3. NO FIGHTING/SARCASM: While we'd like to think that a Disney fan site is always lighthearted, there are times when there are disagreements. Let's face it, there are certain topics that can transform any of us into a raging "Donald Duck." When you sense this is happening, we ask that you step away from the discussion before it escalates into a fight. Just like Mom always said about fighting, we don't care who started the argument and we don't want it on the DIS. (Okay, she didn't say the part about the DIS, but you know what we mean.) No attacking others and no sarcasm please. Either will result in an infraction.
