My SIL was talking about this yesterday she is going to start this.
She gives her kids X amount of coupons that can be redeemed for trips to the library, the zoo, an ice cream treat, anything special. She said she was thinking about doing it for TV too.

She said that the kids get a certain amount of tickets each week then can earn more by doing above and beyong their normal chores.

Does anyone do anything similar and hows it working for you?

TIA for any information :)

We use something like that for time spent playing video games. Our kids were turning into couch potatoes, so we said that they had to spend time working around the house to earn tokens to spend playing games. Sometimes we award extra time and educational games don't need tokens.

My mom did this with us for TV time for awhile. We were given tickets and each ticket was worth 30 minutes of TV time. It was a good idea, but hard to implement because she worked several evenings a week. Of course, we were preteens at the time so not always the most honest about what we watched while she was gone. If the children are younger and your SIL is at home with them, it would probably work very well.

When we were little (i.e. 3-8yrs old) we used to earn points towards special treats. For example, we got a star for each chore or for good behavior (there was a list stating what things got stars). A goal was set depending on what we wanted to do. For example, the three of us had to earn a total of 100 stars and then we would get to go see Disney on Ice. Another time, we had to earn 20 stars for a family trip to Chuck E Cheese. The star value was determined based on the cost of the event. This plan worked really well for us. The distribution of stars was a big event every night before bed. We loved keeping track of how close we were to our goal.
