We held our very last yard sale last fall. I never minded getting ready for them, as we always have done so well. I clean everything, organize the items, price low, and will bargain with people. It is time consuming, but they have been very profitable for us in the past. Our last 2 have been a hassle as people are really "nickle and diming" everything, and want free stuff thrown in, and seem to be more rude than in the past, to each other and to us. It used to be a fun day for us - not any longer. Maybe it's just our area or the recent economy, but I know of friends and neighbors who have said the same thing, and now just donate.
Last year I sold stockpiled items for the first time, in with the mix of my other things. I usually stockpile for personal use only, or to donate to shelters, but decided to try to sell some. I suspect a lot of the stockpiled items went to fleamarket dealers, as they bought in bulk, so I know I underpriced. I also overheard numerous "comments" from people as to why I had so many "store items" for sale. Just made me feel very uncomfortable.
So, all in all, I'm done and will now just donate everything I don't need or have extra of.
