Does anyone count calories anymore?

I'm just curious...it seems like everyone counts points or carbs. Does anyone eat a heathier diet just by being aware of calorie content and nutritional value? Doesn't it all seem so simple -just eat less and move more. If it only were that easy. Good luck to everyone on their fitness and weight loss journey.

I do count calories. But I also count fat grams and carbs. I write down almost everything I eat (I was really good at first with writing everything down but now there are some things that it just takes too long for me to calculate out). If I don't have something with a label then I go to www.calorieking.com. I know there are other sites out there but I haven't used them and not really sure what they are.

I'm finding that I have been able to lose if I stay between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. I started trying to stay at 1800 but I didn't seem to lose. I also try to work out at least 3 times a week, sometimes more depending on my schedule which is really hard right now.

Good luck

That's my philosophy now. I've tried Atkins and other diets, but they haven't worked. Or rather they did, but when I went back to "regular" eating I gained it all back. I found that on my diets, I wasn't eating the foods I usually eat. Now I eat pretty much what I usually eat, just a lot less, and try to skip desserts and eat healthier.

I count calories. It's the main way I monitor my diet. I also keep an eye on fat content. And I count fiber and protein to make sure I get enough - especially the protein, since I'm a vegetarian. I don't count carbs because I don't do Atkins/South Beach/low carb. As a vegetarian, I'd be sure to lose weight on one of those diets - I'd starve! :rotfl2:

In addition to counting calories, I really concentrate on exercising and staying active.

That's how I lost 110 pounds. Everyone must do what works for them, and this is what I found worked best for me. :)

I count calories, it's a pain, but it works for me. I have a computer program call balance log, and I can put in it what I eat, and it has all the nutrition info in the program. It also tells me how many calories I can eat to lose, such and such lbs per week! I love it!!

I'm watching my calorie intake since the beginning of June. It's helped me shed most of the weight I've lost.

That's what I've been trying to do as well. Two good books: Change One and the American Heart Association's No-Fad Diet. Both are based on the simple principles of eating healthier, moving more and thinking more in relation to food. Calories in versus calories out -- that's the bottom line.

I count calories and try to focus on eating a sensible, balanced, high-fiber diet. It doesn't always turn out that way, but that's the goal at least!

I use www.fitday.com to track my calories. It's pretty helpful.

I always count calories. I weigh all my food and use fitday.com to track everything. IMO, its the only way to really monitor what you are eating.

Not only do I count calories but I also watch my macros, which are the ratios of protein/carbs/fat. I've used this method with alot of success in the past. Its worked well both when I need to gain weight and also lose weight.

I've never understood how some of these so-called diets catch on. The basic principles of nutrition have not changed. Eat healthy foods, exercise, and keep calorie intake below your expenditure, and you will lose weight. Alot the popluar diets that are around today, and just repackaged versions of old diets. Its all a marketing gimic to make money. Most of the basic principles in these diets are all the same.

Since there's ppl out there counting calories. How about anyone ever heard of negative calories? It says that some food you eat actually requires the body to work harder to digest the food and thus taking away extra calories.
Salad is an example - without fattening dressing(low fat instead) of course.

Another fitday.com user here.
Have been using it since 2002. Doc said no lower than 1200 calories, then I increased to 1500, then 1800, then maintained for a while at 2100.
Now that Ive been diagnosed with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism I need to cut back and find another # where my body will maintain.

That's what I have been doing all year.....Counting Calories. I am close to getting my 60 pound clippie. I started on Jan. 1st of this year and I am trying to eat healthier foods, I take a vitatim (for women) every day, and I count my calories.

It isn't fancy, but it is working.

I count calories too, I try to keep my main meals around 300 cals and have 2 snacks around 100 calories each and a dessert around 100 calories. I'm having good results with this.

Me too! I have been faithfully using FitDay and keeping my calories between 1200-1300 per day. I am a firm believer that the only way to lose weight is to burn more than you consume.
