Does anyone catch a cab at the airport?

I'm wondering if anyone just grabs a cab at MCO after baggage claim. I'm having a hard time deciding between car services:(

Is there any drawback to just picking up a cab at the airport? There will be 4 of us traveling and we will each have carry-on luggage and 2 checked bags. Will we have a problem finding a vehicle large enough to provide our needs?
We are still new to traveling.

Thanks.

Mears operates the taxi concession at the airport. All the taxis (from various companies) will accomodate your luggage and the amount of people you have. They have cars and vans.

Thanks for your reply. This is exactly what we will do.
Here in NY he airports are lined with taxis and there is usually no need to arrange transport ahead of time but I wasn't sure it worked this way in other places too.
I'm really missing Magical Express though. Lol.

Taxi service from MCO is metered, car services charge a flat rate. You may save a few dollars if you book a car service.

The OP didn't ask ;) but... are you sure you need everything that will fit in eight checked bags and four carry-ons?

ditto...our family of four goes for 9 days and we do 3 checked bags and a backpack.

We've taken cabs many times from MCO. Just go down to the bottom level where ME is & exit out the doors & look for the taxi stand. They are lined up & ready to go.

According to be fare estimations I'm getting, it looks like a cab would be much cheaper than the car service rates.

I'm not sure if I made an error on my post. We will each have a carry on and two checked bags total. We are traveling with some food items to save money on our trip. We won't have four checked bags though. Lol.

Lol, I see the error in my post. I forgot the word "total" after 2 checked bags.
And because I know someone will bring it up, yes we get free checked bags.
Thanks guys :)

The fare estimators tend to be low, I don't think they take the tolls into account. What resort are you going to? Our fares from MCO to WDW have always been between $55-65 one way plus tip.

Last time I tood a cab back to the airport (Dolpin to MCO) it was $67 plus tip - average town car service is $110 round trip with a free grocery stop if you want.

Advantage IMHO is that you know you will have a ride at a pre-arranged price ready and waiting when you arrive and again when you depart.

I have also used a cab from the Hard Rock to the Dolphin twice and the 2nd time was much more expensive than the first. Driver took the long way and there were lots of lights and traffic - ugg. Now I always ask the bellman, in the presence of the cab driver, what the estimated far should be to my destination - even within WDW so that I get a fair cab fare :)

We have used a towncar about 2x a year for the past several years and always had good experiences. The one time we had a mishap and had to call a cab (mentioned above) they were great about making things right with us.

IF you're staying onsite, I'd consider using DME instead of a cab. It's FREE, and that beats a taxi fare any day.

If you're concerned about luggage arriving when you do, you can take it on the bus with you. Elsewise, if you don't mind waiting a bit for your luggage to arrive, DME will deliver your bags to your room for you.

The OP said in a later post that she'll be missing ME, so I assume she's staying off property.

Advantage towncar only exists IF they show up.

About a year ago I was at the Hess Station near DTD and there was a car service driver in there pitching a fit at the length of the line because "I have a pick up at 2 PM" Of course it was AFTER 2 PM when he got in line. Made me think!

(I quit using Orlando car services after a few other bad experiences. I use them other places, but MCO seems to have a low standard for 'licensing' these guys)

I have been lucky then because I have had only one problem in about 30 trips! The one problem I had they paid for my cab ride and gave me a complimentary one way on my next visit. I also pay by CC'd after arrival at the resort just in case I do have an issue on the return trip.

I put in MCO as the from and entered the address for POP in the to field. The estimated taxi fare was $58. Add tolls. I don't think the estimator makes an allowance for traffic or other delays.

A car service will offer a flat rate, no worry about being "long hauled" for about the same price.

I'm sorry. That's my old signature from last year. I can't figure of how to change it. We are staying at the Doubletree and then CBR.

Thanks for your reply. I love the idea of having a car waiting at the airport. It makes everything so much easier.
We have decided to take our chances on catching a cab. Hopefully it all works out!
