I've gotta say that I am willing to do ANYTHING asked of me to keep my family safe while traveling.

These terrorist put every waking moment of their lives into these plots and plans, they have no regard for themselves or anyone else. We have NO IDEA what they could have created, or tested. These terrorist are NOT dumb, and they absolutely believe that we shoud DIE for our beliefs. Maybe they can put something into a chapstick that can be combined with something in our hair gel that will explode!

We don't know what they are capable of and its the unknown that has brought these safety measures to the extreme,

I cannot believe the comments on here on some minor inconviences or a little replanning. I just ask people to remember history and help to not let it repeat itself!!!!

BUT of course everyone is entitled to their opinion.

i agree with you 100% there are too many people whining about not being able to carry their handbag onto the plane or something as trivial (not just here, IRL too)

i for one can travel with just us and the bare minimun on board. we usually do and if i can't, we drive! that's what we're doing this year!!!

I can agree with the not sitting home and worring, but if I have to check my chapstick or shampoo I am willing to do so. The day I am told that I should not board a plane at all or not go to a certain place (ex DIS world) is where I draw the line

I have to say that I totally agree with you and not the OP. I will not "gladly" do ANYTHING. I will allow them to search my luggage. I will allow them to "wand" my 6 year-old (as they did when she was 2). I will allow them strip me of everything but the clothes on my back to go through security. I will allow them to ask me to throw out things that they deem unsafe. I will do what they ask of me because air flight is not a right, it is a privilege. But I will not do so "gladly" or "cheerfully". I will be polite. That's about all I can muster up right now.

FWIW, I am flying tomorrow. I am not worried about the terrorists half as much as I am worried about the lines for security.

Hey -- if it makes carry ons a little less heavier, I am all for that!
Safety, yes. But life is full of uncertainty. I probably have a much greater risk driving to work every day than I do flying anywhere.
We fly cross country next month and plan on enjoying the trip to DL as much as possible.

I love to travel, but I would not be willing to do anything to continue to be able to do so. We have never been 100% safe. and we can never be 100% safe. I think every change to make us supposedly safer deserves a cost-benefit analysis and not just a knee jerk reaction that more is always better.

Convenience may not be everything, but it is something. I would think for those flying with young children, enough added inconvenience would tip the balance towards choosing not to fly.

For example, if carry-ons are permanently banned (as they are currently for flights to/from the UK), I would expect traveling with children to be much more difficult.

I flew cross-country to WDW with my almost 3YO niece and I cannot imagine what the trip would have been like without a single TOY for her to play with or BOOK for her to read. Maybe some are very creative parents, but nothing but finger puppets and storytelling while she was strapped into her carseat for 5+ hours would have worn me out.

I agree. But I have never been a big carry-on person, even when we travel with the kids we just have 1 carry-on. We have always checked our bags.

I could care less whether I buy my shampoo in NJ vs. FL or how I have to pack it. I will cheerfully follow whatever rules they need to create for our own safety. It's not the stuff for my vacation that I want to keep on the plane with me (ie. stupid lipstick) but stuff to occupy my kids for the flight itself. I hope my other post wasn't taken as a "gripe" but I have small children and the port dvd player has been a life-saver both on the plane and at the gate, esp. during delays. I'm sure we'd survive just fine without it if we had to. If it were dh and myself flying w/o kids, we wouldn't even bother with it. But having it for the kids makes our travel time much more enjoyable for all 4 of us.

I keep reading the posts with disers whining about such small inconviences. Perhaps we should step back and think about the thousand of soldiers that are living without chap stick, shampoo, a shower, thier families. Those men and women are giving their lives to try and keep us safer and we complain about getting on an airplane without shampoo. Seriously.

I have read the other forum posts with disgust but didnt post as people are entitled to their own opinions. Thanks for posting one that makes sense to me! I really wish people would think about whats truly important and stop worrying about getting on an airplane without stinking chapstick. You cant stop living but you certainly can live survive an airplane ride without your makeup.

My only problem is how secure is our stuff checked once it leaves our sight. The baggage theives will have a field day.

Now with the exception of my Cellphone and a few cloths everything else can just stay home .What we need we can get at Publix or Walmart . And Most Souvies can be shipped back home if needed.

SW just send an E-mail with new details and we don't have a flight with them booked at this time Cudos to them.

Just keep me informed so I can Adjust and if it changes while enroute the let me know with some respect and a smile and I will adjust on the fly.

For work I have to go into many Gov and NonGov sights that change from day to day guard to guard so I'm use to it.

I must certainly admit I fail to see any linkage between flying on an airplane and being stuck in the middle of a civil war in Iraq and what does one have to do with the other?

If everything is linked I hope you never send a steak back because it was badly cooked there are Burmese and Africans who would die for a bit of the steak you sent back in Anaheim. But one is not the cause nor the effect of the other.

Everytime we restrict ourselves to fight the fear of terrorism - they win. Does this mean I can't live with a Diet Coke on a flight? No, I will give that up - no big thang.

But the manner in which proper and meaningful restrictions are applied efficcently and effective is quite important and that is what I hate -

spending three hours waiting in lines to fly while the TSA checks the formula on an women of Chinese descent traveling with three small kids and her mother when all 19 suspects were 17-35 yo British citizens of Pakistani descent- ( saw that one on CNN last night) - now that annoys me. Because it's a watse of effort and ineffective.

When people brainstorm or ask others for opinions, solutions can be found. I'm sure all of us are more concerned about serious issues such as the safety of our military men and women. Unfortunately, we have no control over that, we can only pray for them. We do have control over the daily happenings in our lives and our family's lives and sometimes that means dealing with inconsequential things.

Well, I have mixed feelings. There were some pretty silly posts, not just on this board.

Chapstick may seem trivial to some of us, and I still think that a 2-4 flight is manageable with zero carry on items, if need be (unless one is in ill health, or an infant) Years ago, we travelled with very little, and survived just fine. Have a thought for how international travellers flying 10 hours or more with zero carryons will cope.

I think that it's a matter of finding a balance. I'm happy to share thoughts on chapstick, but I do back off from some of the posts which annoy me (and I'm sure that I annoy others with some of my posts, too)

Just wanted to chime in that ITA with the OP...

I can understand where others are coming from with the idea that these restrictions mean the terrorists have won... I can see that, to an extent. But ultimately I think they'll win if they cause us to stop travelling.

Look, these groups view the US as a big capitalistic monster. They look at our movies, music, etc. as if to prove that we have no values in this country. If I were one of these guys I'd be LMAO that people are upset about having to leave saline solution in their checked bag.

Some people are looking for alternatives. Fine. TSA already told ya. Check it or leave it home. Two valid alternatives right there.

I've seen comments that some people won't fly until these restrictions are lifted. THAT, to me, just hands the terrorists their victory. Folks, please don't stop flying over having to check your shampoo!

Well, we may not know what they could have created, but the DHS sure as HECK should. Also, while the terrorists may not be dumb, they ARE suicidal. All it really takes is one very dynamic, persuasive person... see "Jim Jones".

And yes, they are stopping the Chinese woman w/ how ever many children to look at her formula. Otherwise, it's profiling and we apparently can't have that. Everyone has to be treated equally.

I totally agree with you. However, I think it's only natural to be a little annoyed at inconveniences, even if your better judgement understands why the rules are in place.

If there comes a day when the govt feels no carry-ons should be allowed at all, I will gladly oblige and will probably feel a good deal safer. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't be unhappy about it on another level and bored out of my mind without my reading material, DVD player, or iPod!!
