Does anyone actually WALK to Epcot from the Epcot resorts?

Yep....staying at the Dolphin and looking forward to the walk! When we stayed at CR we walked to MK from there also. We LOVE having the option, plus it seems to give us some great downtime to talk about the days events, and move along at our own pace. We think the friendship boats are great too tho...and will hop on one if it is right there, but usually walk.

We actually enjoy the walk to and from Epcot from the Dolphin, weather permitting. During our trip last week though, it was just darned hot to walk during the day!

What we end up doing most of the time is getting off the Friendship Boat at the Boardwalk dock and walking over to the Dolphin from there. It's a nice walk, and we always beat the boat back! I love the Boardwalk at night when all the lights are on!

We have never stayed at the Epcot resort area, but we are planning to stay at Beach Club for this trip. I must say, the proximity to Epcot and MGM were definite selling points. We plan to walk, especially during late nights when we have stayed for the shows.

We are a 51 year old couple who love to walk, & love to sit & enjoy the evening atmosphere at the Boardwalk. We always walk to Epcot when we stay at the Epcot resorts. We've stayed at Swan, Dolphin, BC, YC, & BWV. The longest walk was probably at the villas when we had a room at the farthest end of the property toward MGM. It was still only about a 15 minute walk. Too bad the walkway to MGM wasn't open that trip, as it would have been a perfect location to walk to both parks. From S/D, our hardest decision is which direction we feel like walking around the lake to get to Epcot.

I can't picture not walking from this area to Epcot. It would surely take longer to wait for the boat and then the slow ride. I've walked to the Studios from here and find that easily do-able too. But we usually drive there since we often go someplace else afterwards.

From the BC, you would have to back track to the dock at the YC to pick up the boat to Epcot. By the time you did that walk, you could be more than half way to the Epcot entrance.

And the boat landing at Epcot is down a hill and just shy of the Epcot entrance. So you would still have to walk up the walkway, then the short walk to the gate.

So not only is it longer time wise, I really don't think you are saving your feet or legs any.

imho

We love to walk so we always walk to EPCOT and MGM from BW and BC.

DH and I and DH's parents are all going in December. We would like to walk from EPCOT to BC for a late breakfast. My question is since the International Gateway is in the WS area and it doesn't open until 11:00am, can we walk back to BC from EPCOT. We assume (I know, I know, dangerous!) that since guests from BC/YC Swan and Dolphin all use the Gateway, there must be a way, but we would love to hear from someone who has done this!!!

Thanks!!!

On my very first trip to WDW we stayed at the BWV and we hopped a boat to Epcot our first day. We felt incredibly silly when we saw what a short distance it was. We walked to both Epcot and MGM for the rest of our trip. Once at MGM we considered taking the boat back but the captain said it wasn't leaving for ten more minutes, so we walked.

sarah24 (and anyone else who needs to know :D):
While you can't visit any of the "countries" of the World Showcase before 11 AM, you can walk past the Canada and UK pavillions to get to and from the International Gateway.

The incredible closeness to Epcot and MGM was the selling point for DVC for my dh. We have never taken the boat from BWV. But, we have taken the boat back to BWV. Twice from WS and once from MGM. It was terribly hot/humid after Charley came through and by the end of our day in the park it was too hot to walk. Each time we were lucky enough to get the boat with minimal waiting time. Yes, it takes longer than walking, especially anyplace other the BWV since that is the first stop after leaving Intn'l Gateway. But we always walk in the morning!!! And usually at night. It's a beautiful walk. A huuuuge plus for staying at the Epcot resorts.

We always walk to Epcot/MGM from the BWV and BCV. It's such a nice walk and really doesn't take long at all.

We often walk from the BW to Epcot and to MGM. We don't find it a long walk at all. We always walk back from MGM and Epcot to the BW at the end of the night instead of waiting on the boats. Those lines are long!

Absolutely! Walking to and from EPCOT is one of my favorite things about staying in this area. Besides it being so beautiful, it always seems like such a calm and peaceful stroll. One thing I love to do is on an afternoon when everyone else is either swimming or napping or just exhausted with the parks I go over to EPCOT and stroll around the WS countries alone. I love doing this and I'm there so quickly and then back again so quickly. Sometimes my family doesn't even realize I've taken some private time in WS.

Great to see that so many other people appreciate this great walk!!

Not only do we like the walk to Epcot, we purposely stay at BWI just so we can walk over. It's such a nice walk and strolling through the World Showcase on the way to Future World in the morning prior to opening is so wonderfully peaceful and relaxing.

The walk to and from Epcot is something we enjoy so much, we'll often find ourselves taking an extra trip to Epcot mainly for the walk. It's such a great way to pop over for dinner real quick even if you weren't planning on spending much time at the park.

Even when we're not staying at BWI, we'll frequently take the walk back from Epcot over to the Boardwalk for dinner or Jellyrolls or whatnot and then take a bus back to our resort later at night.

As far as MGM goes, that really depends on how tired we are that day as that's a bit more of a hike so we'll take the boat if it's not crowded, but it's only a 10-15 minute walk at the most and unless you hit the boat just right at the right point in it's route, walking will almost always be faster.

count me in on the walk. IT is a little long to MGM but it is fine for us anyway. IN fact we beat the boats most of the time.
they are very slow.

We figure we have already been walking all day might as well do another 15 - 20 minutes.

sounds like lots more people walk then I thought. We were alone most of the times however in our walks.

It's great when leaving the Studios or Epcot at closing to be able to walk back to your hotel. Not a concern at all about the crowds waiting for buses and boats.
I agree with others that it is quite a walk from the Studios, but it is very enjoyable. The walk from the Epcot hotels to the International Gateway is a snap.
As someone noted earlier, the International Gateway entrance opens the same time as the main entrance. Although you cannot go to World Showcase early in the morning you can go to Future World.

When I stayed at the Beach Club I always walked to Epcot. Last month I walked all the way from MGM to Epcot. I actually beat the boat! :hyper:

We stay at the BCV and usually walk to anf from Epcot and MGM as we walk both quicker than it takes the boat to get there. We sometimes catch the boat back from MGM if it is a hot, humid day and we have been walking around a lot. We don't catch the boat back from Epcot though. If we walk through the international gateway and along a path that takes you behind the beach club just as you get over the bridge from Epcot which we found is quicker than walking from the boat dock.

We were in MGM last year and were waiting for Fantasmic but a storm came along and the show was cancelled. We saw the line at the boat dock (most of the people were not under cover so were getting rained on too) and it was huge. We decided to walk back to the villa (there were 4 of us and another couple who decided to walk). We saw a couple in front of us head to the boat dock. We walked back, went up to the room, showered, dried off and changed and headed down to the Yachtsmans steakhouse which we made reservations for as we passed earlier. As we walking to the steak house we saw the same couple that we had seen head for the boat dock at MGM and they had only just got back to the resort. We were back and out of the rain a good 35 minutes bafore they were!!
