I signed up with UPromise a while ago, registered all my cards, but have $0 in my account. Obviously, I'm not using it correctly, but I guess I don't really understand how to get the dollars into my account. I just found the e-coupons and selected some for my grocery shopping today -- but I didn't know about the online shopping stuff, etc. Do I need to go to UPromise and go to my online retailer through UPromise first? Other tips?

Sorry, but I never did figure it out. After using it for years, my daughter's account ended up with about $75 in it. Unfortunately, we can't seem to withdraw it. She has since graduated from college. We've tried multiple times to withdraw the money (while she was in college). Each time, there was some reason why they couldn't give it to her. Always something wrong with the request. We never did figure it out.

I forgot all about this program. We signed up probably 8 years ago and I never gave it another thought. I just checked our account and it says we have $133.82 available for transfer which isn't very much. That would probably buy one book for one class.

If it helps at all, they have an 800 number you can try. It's 800-UPROMISE.

To earn $ from online shopping, go to the upromise website 1st then go to the retailer's site through upromise. To get credit for the online shopping you must also have your credit cards or debit cards registered.

To earn $ from grocery shopping, make sure you check back a few times a month to click on the ecoupons to make them active. You must have the grocery store card registered to get the credit.

I have my upromise account linked to the PA529 for my daughter and every 3 months it automatically transfers the money over to that account. There are a few different options for savings accounts in which you can have the money transfered to.

Legally, you don't have to use the money for education. It's just like any other shopping incentive program. The funds are not restricted by purpose until and if you transfer it into an educational savings account etc.

Just fill out the withdrawal form and mail it to them - they only mail out checks once every three months so it might take awhile. That's what I always did, I haven't used them for awhile though. It can take a long time until you get a credit for your shopping but you might want to check into it and make sure you have everything set up right.

I set up a Upromise account YEARS ago and I can't remember how this account worked - I totally forgot about this account until recently when I found my name on the state unclaimed funds website and found out I have $30.80 in my Upromise acct. I just have to fill out the form the state is sending me so I can collect my long lost funds!

I mostly used my Upromise to purchase office supplies for our business. It added up to a little over $200 in about 6 years. I requested a check and it was promptly mailed to us. It will cover a few textbooks when D starts college this fall.

My grocery cards have not changed but I am not getting credit for just shopping and buying certain items...did they do away with that? Is it just the coupon thing. I still get credit if I shop online like I use it to order flowers for birthdays and such.

My aunt said she could not get her money from them either.

Ours transfers to a 529.

I've been a member since 2001 and have so very rarely taken advantage of it. As a matter of fact, I forgot about it until I saw this thread. I checked the balance and it was a whopping $183.00, so I requested a withdrawal. It can be done online without filling out a form or getting signatures. The next check distribution is June 15.
